Cognitive Disorder- impairs the cognitive function of
an individual to the point where normal functioning in
society is impossible without treatment
Some common cognitive disorders include:
Dementia
Developmental disorders
Motor skill disorders
Amnesia
Substance-induced cognitive impairment

Drug- alter the bodys function physically or pscyhologically


Psychoactive drug- affects the CNS and alter a persons mood, thinking and behavior

1. Depressants- diminish the activity of the central nervous system


2. Stimulants - increase the activity of the central nervous system
3. Hallucinogen- distort perceptions to induce delusions or hallucinations

Anti-depressants- psychiatric medications given to patients with depressive disorders


to alleviate symptoms
1. Monoamine oxidase inhibitors (MAOIs)
- inhibit the action of monoamine oxidase
2. Noradrenaline and Specific Serotoninergic
Antidepressants (NASSAs)
- treatment of anxiety disorders, some personality
disorders, and depression
3. Serotonin and Noradrenaline Reuptake
Inhibitors (SNRIs)
- treat major depression, mood disorders, etc.
4. Selective Serotonin Reuptake Inhibitors
(SSRIs)
- most commonly prescribed antidepressants
5. Tricyclic
