INTRODUCTION

The flat plate floor systems are commonly used in multi-storey

buildings, because flat plate floor system present advantages
from technical and functional point of view.
The self-weight of slab can reduce by replacing the middle
height of the cross section of slab with void former.
The overall weight of slab is decreasing as much as 35%
compared to solid slab of same capacity.

3
The spherical balls, which are inserted in the middle of the flat
plate slabs, are manufactured from recycled plastic, which do
not react chemically with concrete or steel.

4
HISTORY

The first hollow concrete block was designed in 1890 by

Harmon S. Palmer in united states.
In 1900 palmer got patent for his design of hollow concrete
blocks.
By 1905 it is estimated that 1500 companies start
manufacturing hollow concrete block.

ADVANTAGES

Flexibility in room layout

Reinforcement placement is easier.

Ease of framework installation

Foundation load will be reduced

Less construction time

8
COBIAX BLOCK

The high density Polyethylene or Polypropylene spheres,

developed by German researchers.
The rows of cages are placed adjacent to each other to form a
grid of evenly spaced void formers.
The cages with spheres are lightweight, allowing for quick
placement and rapid construction.

9
the spherical void formers used in the Cobiax system result in
concrete web widths that not only change through the depth of
the section, but also in a horizontal direction.

10
11
VOIDED SLAB CONSTRUCTION
Voided slab systems are
constructed by two primary
methods.
A filigree method in which part
of the system is precast off site,
and a method in which the entire
system is constructed on site.
Both methods use the same three
basic components.

12
In both methods, the main component is the plastic void.
These voids are often spherical, hollow, and made of recycled
plastic.
The next main component is the steel cage. Steel
reinforcement is added to resist flexure for the slab, but a cage
of thin steel is also used to hold the voids in place, keeping
them in the centre of the slab.

13
The third main component is the concrete, which surrounds
the voids and forms the slab. The concrete ultimately
determines slab strength.

14
15
16
INSTALLATION

COBIAX flat slabs can be designed as a "purely in-situ

concrete solution" with conventional formwork.
After installation of the lower flexural reinforcement layer, the
modules are fitted using the COBIAX mounting aid and fixed
in place. This is followed by installation of the upper
reinforcement layer.

17
Concrete displacement gives rise to a buoyant force during the
concrete pouring process. Avoid buoyancy on the part of the
void formers by applying suitable measures to hold the
individual void former modules down.
This is achieved by concreting in 2 layers. When pouring the
first concrete layer, ensure that the lower longitudinal rods of
the cage modules are enclosed in accordance with the
installation plan
