What does sustainable mean?
- able to be maintained or kept going, to last.

- Creating the conditions in which humans and nature can


exist in productive harmony. Balancing short-term needs
with the long-term needs of people and the planet.

2. Create a mind map showing the different ways sustainability is encouraged in


the Lake District. (Glue the sheet neatly into your book when you have
finished this task).

3. How could Guildford become a more sustainable town? Suggest some ideas
with explanation.

Extension: Why is sustainability not always popular with businesses? Give an


example with your answer.
