STRENGTHENING ACADEMIC DEVELOPMENT THROUGH E-READING

Abstract Methods and Materials Results Discussion

The study focused on the utilization of online sources to maximize
potentials in reading among students of Masapang Integrated National
High School.
Increased reading performance level of Senior High School students
was the main goal of this study. Based on the initial findings, students
(respondents) has low interest in reading print out materials due to
several reasons like social media indulgence as primary reason, hence,
their ability to comprehend and answer reading questions were also
compromised and decreased.
The innovative strategy of the researchers to convert the reading
materials into interactive online reading texts became an avenue for
students to perform better in their reading tasks as well as achieving
good in their reading performance.
The results showed that there is a significant increase on the level of
reading performance of students as well as the productivity in time
management of the learning process.
E-Reading is now a best way to make sure that students develop their
potentials to the fullest possible.
Respondents were Grade 11 students under TVL (Technical-
Vocational and Livelihood) course major in Home Economics.
Based on the Reading Assessment, their sections are identified
with the most number of cases with Instructional level reading
performance.
Students were given reading activities through their mobile
phones and gadgets. The reading text were uploaded in their
individual e-mail accounts and Group Chat. Similarly, the
comprehension questions were also uploaded.
Students were also given print out copies of reading texts with
the corresponding comprehension questions printed in a paper.
Studies shows that millennial students are considered Digital

There is an increase of the Reading performance of the Most of them are dependent on their electronic devices. In
students as well as an increase in the productivity to do reading addition to this, they, too, are visual learners as they easily acquire

Introduction
The 21st Century learners carry the burden of such great
expectation: to acquire the necessary knowledge and skills to
navigate and succeed in an increasingly globalized, demanding,
and changing environment. To attain this, they must be able to
maintain a high level of competence and confidence in using the
macro skill in learning-Reading , since it is the basic foundation of
knowledge acquisition.
Reading is not only an activity with the printed words. It also
entails the use of thinking strategies to decipher the meaning of a
written text. Having proven that it is a skill; therefore, it can be
learned and enhanced.
Reading is subjectively dependent on the persons like of
particular genres and reading materials. It reflects that some forms of
reading materials are preferred by certain gender, age-group
among others.
The Masapang Integrated National High School consists of
students with various profiles. This school caters hundreds of students
clamoring for holistic learning. These students having been exposed
to various literatures acquire preferences for specific types of
reading materials throughout their elementary and high school
education. But it is quite alarming that there are students who have
low reading performance.

Students of 21st Century learn in different ways, so as the
learning styles are concern, therefore, teachers should be
creative to utilize modern technology in teaching to achieve the
desired outcomes in learning.
All Senior High School teachers should be involved in making
sure that students comprehension is being developed since it is
considered as foundation to effective learning; thus, Teachers
should provide many reading activities and exercises in all core,
specialized and applied subjects
