The voice of a verb tells whether the subject of the

sentence performs or receives the action.
There are two types:
Active & Passive.
ACTIVE VOICE

This is the direct relation between the subject and the object.
The therapist treated the patient.
This places the therapist as the subject hence more emphasis on
the therapist.
PASSIVE VOICE

This is the indirect relation between the subject and the object.
The patient was treated by the therapist.
This places the patient as the subject hence more emphasis on the
patient.

HOW TO IDENTIFY

1. Find the subject (the main character of the sentence).

2. Find the main verb (the action that the sentence identifies).
3. Examine the relationship between the subject and main verb.

If the subject performs the action of the main verb, the sentence
is active.
If the subject sits there while something else named or unnamed
performs an action on it, the sentence is passive.
EXCEPTIONS

Some active sentences dont have a passive form

e.g.
Colorful parrots live in the rainforests.

Sentences with linking verbs are neither active

nor passive e.g.
The door was open.
She might have been very nice.
