BACKGROUND

The Oil & Gas Training Institute was


established in 1979 with technical assistance
from the Canadian International Development
Agency.

Basic training to new inductees of OGDCL.

Knowledge update and continuous training of


working professionals on Need basis.

More than 70 training programs conducted
in 2012-12. Attended by 850 professionals.

In the current FY, more than 200


professionals have benefited from 25
courses so far.

In addition, about 120 professionals were


sent to workshops, seminars, conferences
& training programs conducted by PIM,
IBA, SPE etc.

Cases of about 80 professionals were


processed for foreign trainings / visits.
FRESH MANDATE
MP & NR has given mandate to OGDCL to establish a
degree awarding institute(OIST).

Enrolment of fresh graduates for postgraduate


studies & training program and final
Appointment/induction to serve E&P Sector.

Development of Post graduate Training program


Plan, follow-up, coordination and execution.

The experiment is a unique practice of its type like


PIEAS(PAEC).

Conversion of OGTI to a degree awarding
institute.

To Establish Center of Excellence in Research.

Indigenous Resources (Petroleum, Coal, Shale


and Tight Gas).

To address Prevailing Industry Problems (Mud


Engineering, Cementation, Corrosion, Rock
Mechanics, Hole Stability Issue, Geo Mechanical
Earth Modeling, Hydraulic Fracturing).

NEW VISION
MS Program in Petroleum Engineering will be
Started in September 2013.

Next year MS/M.Phil Program in Earth Sciences.

OGDCL Management Pledged US $ 1.00 Million


for the Initiation of Research Work & Training
Programme at OGTI,Data & PVT Technical Labs,
Rigsites,Workstations,Production & Processing
Plants & Exploration sites.

ASSISTANCE UNDER MP & NR for
OGDCL Institute of Science &
Tecnology(OIST) MS/ Phd PROGRAM
Students at the end of successful completion of degree
will be Provided 1 year basic training program.

After the completion of training the trainees will be


offered jobs/Inducted in the relevant disciplines as:

Trainee Geoscientists will be adjusted in exploration


department for exploring indigenous resources &

Trainee Engineers be adjusted in Production, Processing


& Reservoir departments

BASIC TRAINING

One Year training is basially provided to
fresh Graduate Engineers and
Geoscientists.

In 2008/9, more than 200 Engineers and


Geoscientists belonging to 18 different
disciplines completed one year training
at OGTI.

No new induction of trainee groups has


been done since then.

SPECIAL COURSES CONDUCTED

Special workshop on Geophysical Techniques for


Exploration of Natural Resources for 08 delegates of
SAARC member countries in 2010.

Course on shale gas organized for SAARC Energy


Center on 15 and 16 October, 2012

Well Performance Analysis course for 27 Engineers,


Technicians & Operators of OMV.

Process Instrumentation course for 15 Engineers,


Technicians & Operators of OMV.

Safety-Safe Practices in Mid & Down Stream
Petroleum Sector for 10 professionals of
OGRA.

Natural Gas Treatment and Monitoring for


ESBI at Rousche Plant, Kabirwala.

Training of 7 Instructors of Petroleum


Technical Training Institute (PTTI) Khairpur for
four (04) weeks. Also assisted with curriculum
development.

SUMMER INTERNSHIP

150 students of various universities / institutes


are provided summer internship during July-
September every year.

Maximum duration of the internship is 8 weeks.

Stipend of Rs. 3000/= per month is paid to the


internees.

Those posted at fields/plants are provided free
boarding/lodging facilities.

Field attachments are also provided to


individuals who have recently completed their
degrees.

Policy being revised to include more students


and to improve criteria for internship.

REFRESHER TRAINING
Short courses are conducted throughout the
year.

Course calendar for refresher courses is


prepared in January & July every year and is
posted at OGDCL website.

Course Leaflets & Nomination Calls are sent to


relevant departments as follow-up.

REFRESHER TRAINING
MARKETING OF TRAINING PROGRAMS

An aggressive marketing strategy will be


prepared to market training programs to other
E&P companies.

Regular Instructors/Course Coordinators of


OGTI will meet HR Managers and Technical
Professionals of E & P companies to market
selected courses.

A presentation on training capabilities of OGTI


will be made to representatives of these
companies.

Course leaflets (Course Content & Instructors
Profile) of selected courses will be sent to all
E&P companies.

OGTI Brochure and Training Calendar for the


year 2013 will be printed and provided to all E&P
companies.

REVIVAL OF BASIC TRAINING
PROGRAM
Training at induction level is inherent strength
of OGTI.

Regular influx of trained manpower at induction


level is a requirement of many technical
departments.

One Year training program for fresh Graduates,


Engineers, Geoscientists & Technicians should
be revived.

OGTI can start the training as soon as the


induction process of the trainees is completed
by recruitment department.

Two Year Training of groups of Engineers &
Technicians (DAE) from Dera Bugti belonging to
OGDCL, PPL, SNGPL & SSGC.
32 weeks of Classroom Training at OGTI.
Remaining period at field locations of respective
companies (OJT).
Under a special arrangement by MP&NR.

TECHNICAL TRAINING CENTRES (TTC)
TTCs at Quetta & Karak were established by OGTI in 2006.
Centres are being run under social welfare program.
Technical support is provided by OGTI.

About 200 students are trained every year. Students are


selected on merit, based on marks of SSC Exams.

Students are paid a stipend of Rs. 2000/= per month.


Training is provided in the areas of Drilling, Production
Maintenance & Seismic Operations.

There is no obligation on part of OGDCL to provide jobs to


these students. However, this certificate program helps
them find appropriate jobs in the industry.

So far, about 800 students have been trained at these


centres in 4 batches .
