CONTEMPORARY ARCHITECTURE

GREG LYNN
GREG LYNN
Greg Lynn (born 1964) is owner of the Greg Lynn FORM office.
He got into drawing as a kind of sport.
Lynn graduated cum laude from Miami university.
He produce irregular, biomorphic architectural forms.
He uses of advanced technology for design and fabrication.
In 2001, Time Magazine named Greg Lynn one of 100 of the
most innovative people in the world for the 21st century.
In 2008, he won the Golden Lion at the 11th International
Venice Biennale of Architecture.
In 2010, he was awarded a fellowship from United States
Artists.

Sketch Up developer Trimble has launched Sketch Up Viewer, a
new virtual and mixed reality app for the Microsoft HoloLens that will
allow users to inhabit and experience their 3D designs in a
completely new way.
Using the holographic capabilities of the HoloLens, Sketch Up
Viewer creates hologram versions of models that can be placed in
real-world environments allowing architects to study and analyze
how their buildings will react to their context while still in the design
stage.

"Trimble mixed-reality technology and Microsoft HoloLens bring the

design to life and bridge the gap between the digital and physical.
Using this technology I can make decisions at the moment of
inception, shorten the design cycle and improve communication
with my clients, said Lynn.

BLOBITECTURE
The term blob architecture was coined by architect Greg Lynn in 1995
in his experiments in digital design with metaball graphical software.
The Rise Of Organic Architecture Buildings,
mean blobs, are taking over the world.
The word blobitecture first appeared in
print in 2002
Architects and furniture designers began to
experiment with this blobby software to
create new and unusual forms.
The closest thing in real life to the
creation of metaballs is the merging of water drops.

BLOBITECTURE-IN FORM
Blobitecture from blob architecture, blobism or blobismus are terms for
a movement in architecture in which buildings have an organic ,
amoeba-shaped, bulging form.
One of the most influential branches of architecture in the last 15 years
is "blobitecture," which produces futuristic (often blob-like) forms using
cutting edge technology.

MODULAR WALL BUILDING FOUNTAIN

&FURNITURE
Blob modular unit
Blob Wall is an attempt to redefine architectures most basic building
unitthe brick.
Lynn found a plastic polymer that can
take on any shape and is easily modified,
cut, once formed into blobs .
The polymer also has the unique characteristics of being
translucent, light, and durable as well as available in a variety
of colors and is fully recyclable into new products.
Molded into colorful modular units using computer numerical control
(CNC) technology.
Each brick, or blob unit, is a trilobed hollow shape that is mass
produced through rotational molding.
Blob Wall is a free-standing wall system comprised by a low-
density, recyclable, impact-resistant polymer.
Free-standing modular wall system
Individual blob units are intersected to form a freestanding wall,
allowing for an endless number of prefabricated configurations
and custom applications.
Designers actually use 3D software, like MAX or Maya, to
design the full Blobwall.
Once each individual blob unit is located within the structure a
designer uses boolean functions to subtract any overlapping
material between two blob units.
Designers must choose
which blob unit takes
precedence and leave it whole.
Free-standing modular wall system
The resulting shapes are sent to a 5-axis routing machine
where software guides the machine in making precise cuts to
the blob units.
Each blob unit and sub blob unit part are labeled to indicate its
location within the Blobwall.

RV Prototype (RV = Room Vehicle) CONCEPT

He has created a prototype for a motorised compact-living cocoon that

rotates to provide space for relaxing, sleeping and bathing (+ movie).

Like in a NASA capsule or a space station the ergonomic surfaces are not
limited to the floor.
RV Prototype (RV = Room Vehicle)

Through rotation, the 60m2

living environment is thought
as a wrap-around surface
rather than as a platform.
The ability to rotate the living
environment in response to
the weather, daylight and
temperature also optimizes
environmental quality.
And is built like a F1 car in
foam cored carbon fiber epoxy
laminate.

entertainment on-demand.
The living space does not move around you to make
you comfortable, but instead you are rolled and must climb,
tumble, traverse and spelunk across the ergonomic surface
like a mountain goat, a Pilates disciple, a Parkour Tracuer or
wannabe Spiderman.
RV Prototype (RV = Room Vehicle)
By building in cloth structures made rigid with glue we are able to
orient materials at the fiber scale for construction.
Looking at the materials and construction logic of boats, planes
and formula one cars it is possible to build large scale structures
that are incredibly light and strong.
A square meter of carbon can cost 1000 times more than a similar
square meter of brick and still be comparably priced.
Once light enough, these building elements can be moved and
manipulated with very little effort.
RV Prototype (RV = Room Vehicle)

Lynn presented a 1:5 carbon fibre scale model of the concept,

"The 1:5 scale model in Kortrijk is always moving,
but the idea is that three basic surfaces would be the orientations
and everything in between would be momentary,"
Lynn was partly inspired by the sedate and lazy lifestyle offered by
luxury recliner chairs, where entertainment and refreshment is
always within arm's reach
But he also wanted to create a stimulating and active environment
for the user.
