 Checking Maintenance Environment

Operation guide:
Check the thermometer and psychrometer in the equipment room.

Requirements on maintenance environment:

Temperature: -15C ~ 25C ; Relative humidity: 30%~70%
If either temperature or humidity is over the range, please report
and record it timely.
 Checking the Active/Standby Status of the Foreground MPs

Operation guide:
In the alarm interface rack status diagram of the SIU O&M console,
click the standby MP to pop up the status diagram. Click the Status
button repeatedly, and observe whether the status display is correct
and timely. If it is disconnected for timeout or the result is reported
very slowly, it means that the active/standby communication status
is abnormal. Please contact the maintenance engineer of the
equipment operator to locate faults. Or directly contact the technical
support engineer of ZTE CORPORATION.
 Checking SMAP Alarm Information

Operation guide:
View the alarm records of SMAP. If there is a record for the
alarming, please contact the maintenance engineer of the
equipment operator to locate faults or directly contact the technical
support engineer of ZTE CORPORATION.
 Checking the Status of Applications

Operation guide:
On the SMAP main interface of ZXIN intelligent network
management system, expand the tree structure diagram of logic
equipment, and select SMP and SCP equipment. Observe the
running status of SMF and SCF functions. When the status is
RUN, it is normal. Or log in to the SCP host as zxin10 user from
the client, execute zxstat or zxtool -p command to view the system
running conditions, and execute zxtool -c command to view the
nodes connected by the system.
 Checking the Running Status of Databases

Operation guide:
On the SMAP main interface of ZXIN intelligent network
management system, expand the tree structure diagram of logic
equipment, select the equipment with SDF function, and observe
the running status of the SDF function. When the status is RUN,
it is normal.

Checking CPU Occupation Rate

Operation guide:
On the SMAP main interface of ZXIN intelligent network
management system, expand the tree structure diagram of logic
equipment, and select SMP and SCP equipment to check CPU
value. If it is less than 70%, it means that the system is normal. If
CPU value is greater than 70%, closely observe whether it will be
decreased when the traffic is relatively less. If it keeps this way,
please make detailed records, and contact the maintenance
engineer of the equipment operator to locate faults, or directly
contact the technical support engineer of ZTE CORPORATION.

Checking SMP Running Status

Operation guide:
On the SMAP main interface of ZXIN intelligent network
management system, expand the tree structure diagram of logic
equipment, select SMP equipment, and observe the running
status of the SMF function. When the status is RUN, it is normal;
otherwise, contact the maintenance engineer of the equipment
operator to locate faults, or directly contact the technical support
engineer of ZTE CORPORATION.

Checking Relevant Logs

Operation guide:
Check the application logs of the servers, databases, SCP and
SMP.
If the server is HP, log in with the root user, execute the
commands more /var/adm/syslog/syslog.log and more
/var/mail/root to observe the system log of the HP server.

Checking Relevant Logs

If the server is AIX, log in with the root user to enter

/var/adm/ras, under which directory are the system logs or
execute the commands such as smitty problem, smitty errpt
for checking the system faults. Observe the system logs of
IBM server.
Log in with zxin10, and execute the commands more
/home/zxin10/log/sdf.log, more /home/zxin10/log/zxcom.log
to observe the logs of applications.

Checking Relevant Logs

Observe these logs, if there are no abnormal prompts such

as warning, error, fail, disconnect, process run too long, nor
prompt status for the system process restarting, it means
that it is normal. Otherwise, please contact the maintenance
engineer of the equipment operator to locate faults or
directly contact the technical support engineer of ZTE
CORPORATION.

Checking SIU Running Status

Operation guide:
On the main interface of ZXIN intelligent network management
system, open the SIU configuration of the equipment
management or click the small icon SIU resources, observe and
make records of SIU data.

Checking SCP-SIU Alarm Information

Operation guide:
On the main interface of ZXIN intelligent network management
system, click the small icon Query alarm, observe and make
records of alarm information.
Start the alarm server process of the SCP-SIU equipment OAM
console. Open the background alarm management interface. By
selecting an office name or a module, you can view the contents in
the latest alarm information window on the right, or you can view
the following information respectively: Overview of information,
information query, database management, environment setting,
alarm setting and call baring management, etc.

Checking SCP-SIU Alarm Information

If there is no alarm information or alarm status is restored,

it means that it is normal. Otherwise, contact the
maintenance engineer of the equipment operator to locate
faults. Or directly contact the technical support engineer of
ZTE CORPORATION.

Checking the running status of connections of the dual-machine and the database

Operation guide:
If the server is HP, and the database is Sybase, please log
in to the active machine with root user. Execute cmviewcl -v
command and view the cluster running status. Log in to
the active machine with sybase user, and execute the
showserver command to view the running conditions of the
database process.

If the server is AIX, and the database is oracle, please log

in to the active machine with the root user. Execute
/usr/sbin/cluster/clstat -a command and view the cluster
running status. Log in to the active machine with the oracle
user, execute ps -ef|grep ora command to check the
running status of the database processes. Run lsnrctl status
to check the database monitoring.

If the active machine database process exists, the standby

database process does not exist; while the available data
space rate of the database is over 40%, the dual-machine
nodes and PKG running status are both UP, it means that
running is normal. Otherwise, contact the maintenance
engineer of the equipment operator to locate faults, or
directly contact the technical support engineer of ZTE
CORPORATION.

Checking max. CAPS at Everyday Busy Hour

Operation guide:
Set traffic statistic task in the task management on the main
interface of the ZXIN intelligent network management and
keep scheduling. Open the traffic analysis in the traffic
management, select the period of daily busy hour, the
services and contents to be analyzed (i.e. CAPS quantity
and put through rate, etc.), and press the analysis button to
check the statistic result of the period given by the system.
If the statistic result is low than the 85% configured CAPS
capacity of the system CAPS, it means that the system is
normal..
 If it is over 85%, please closely observe it. In the case of
keeping this way, please make detailed records and contact
the maintenance engineer of the equipment operator to
locate faults, or directly contact the technical support
engineer of ZTE CORPORATION.

Checking Hardware Space

Operation guide:
Log on to the SCP and SMP server respectively to check
their hardware availability.
If the server is HP, please log on to the active machine with
zxin10 user and execute bdf command.
 If the server is AIX, please log on to the active machine with
zxin10 user and execute bd -Kp command.
If the usage of the hardware space is lower than 70%, the
system is normal. If it is over 70%, please closely observe it
and make detailed records. Contact the maintenance
engineer of the equipment operator to locate faults, or
directly contact the technical support engineer of ZTE
CORPORATION.

Checking System Core File

Operation guide:
Log on to the SCP and SMP hosts with the root user
respectively, and execute find / -name core. If there is no
core file generated, it means that the system runs normally.
Otherwise, contact the maintenance engineer of the
equipment operator to locate faults, or directly contact the
technical support engineer of ZTE CORPORATION.

Checking the Memory Usage of the System at Busy Hour

Operation guide:
Log on to the SCP and SMP servers respectively. If the
server is HP, please follow the mode below: log on to the
active machine with the zxin10 user and execute top
command. If the server is AIX, please follow the mode
below: log on to the active machine with the root user, and
execute topas command to view the application condition of
MEMORY, or use the command vmstat to check both virtual
and physical memories.
 If the free memory of the system is over 50M, the system
runs normally. Otherwise, closely observe it and make
detailed records. Contact the maintenance engineer of the
equipment operator to locate faults, or directly contact the
technical support engineer of ZTE CORPORATION.

Checking Running Status of cdrmanager

Operation guide:
Check cdrmanager to see if there is any alarm information.
If so, please contact the maintenance engineer of the
equipment operator to locate faults or directly contact the
technical support engineer of ZTE CORPORATION.

Checking Power Supply Protection

Operation guide:
Check the power supply of the equipment to see if there are
any abnormal phenomena like heating or smell. If so,
contact the maintenance engineer of the equipment
operator to locate faults, or directly contact the technical
support engineer of ZTE CORPORATION.

Checking SCP-SIU Equipment Status

Operation guide:
Check the SCP-SIU equipment status and their loads. First,
select the related module in the alarm diagram, then, open
the rack diagram under the module number to see whether
the alarms of various modules are reported, the alarm
quantity of each level in the module, CPU occupation rate,
any abnormal phenomena of board statuses. If so, please
contact the maintenance engineer of the equipment
operator, or directly contact the technical support engineer
of ZTE CORPORATION.

Checking the Status of SCP-SIU Signaling Links

Operation guide:
Enter the maintenance interface of the backup OAM
terminal system, open the No.7 management interface
option in the dynamic data management under the data
management, select MTP3 man-machine command item,
and query the link status of route office direction number by
signaling point in the SS7 option. If the link set is in the
working status and the links are in the service statuses, it
means that the signaling link is normal. Otherwise, contact
the maintenance engineer of the equipment operator, or
directly contact the technical support engineer of ZTE
CORPORATION.

Checking the Status of Clock Reference Source

Operation guide:
Enter the alarm interface of the background maintenance
terminal system. Enter the rack diagram, select the SYCK
and CKI boards of the active/standby clocks (if CKI board is
supplied), and click the mouse to query boards. If the
active/standby clock source is in the abnormal status,
please contact the maintenance engineer of the equipment
operator to locate faults, or directly contact the technical
support engineer of ZTE CORPORATION.

Checking the Connection Status with SCP

Operation guide:
On the main interface of ZXIN intelligent network
management system, expand the tree structure diagram of
logic equipment, select SCP equipment, and observe the
running status of the SCP equipment. When the status is
RUN, it is normal; otherwise, contact the maintenance
engineer of the equipment operator to locate faults, or
directly contact the technical support engineer of ZTE
CORPORATION.

Checking the Running Status of Disk array

Operation guide:
If the server is AIX, please follow the mode below: Log on to

ssaraid, and select list status option to view.
If there is no alarm log, it means that the disk array runs
normally. Please contact the maintenance engineer of the
equipment operator to locate faults. Or directly contact the

Operation guide:
Periodically update virus database and scan computer.

Cleaning the Magnetic Tape Unit

Operation guide:
Insert the cleaning tape into the magnetic tape unit about
30s for cleaning and make records. If it cannot be finished
properly, please contact the maintenance engineer of the
equipment operator, or directly contact the technical
engineer of ZTE CORPORATION.

Operation guide:
Periodically clean racks and keep rack surface clean.

Backup of SCP-SIU Data

Operation guide:
After the maintenance interface of the background
maintenance terminal system is entered, select the data
backup under the data management, and then, select the
SQL file in the data backup to generate the backup
database. Backup data to the path in the local hard disk (by
BCP shortcut mode and SQL normal mode respectively). If
abnormity occurs when generating backup data, please
contact the maintenance engineer of the equipment
operator to locate faults, or directly contact the technical
support engineer of ZTE CORPORATION.

Clean-up of SCP-SIU Server Hard Disk

Operation guide:
Clean up the useless contents in the SIU server if it cannot
properly execute.

Operation guide:
Check whether the output voltage range of the power
supply distribution cabinet is normal.

Operation guide:
Check whether POWER A and POWER B works normally.

Checking the Cleanness of the Cabinet

Operation guide:
Clean stains on the cabinet surface. Clean the dust-proof
net on the bottom of the cabinet and check whether there is
any rust in the cabinet.
 Emergency Maintenance

Generally, maintenance personnel can find out faults in the

following ways: User complained faults, system abnormal
alarms, and routine maintenance. In case of fault occurring,
maintenance personnel should never lose their heads, so
as to not to enlarge the fault impact.
 Emergency Maintenance

After a fault occurs, first, check the fault alarm from the
background maintenance terminal. Once it is confirmed that
the fault exists, make a primary analysis to the fault
phenomena to determine whether there is a vital failure. If it
is an ordinary fault, locate and handle it according to
relevant procedures, and make good records. If it is a vital
failure, please consider whether maintenance personnel
can handle it by himself.
 Emergency Maintenance

If so, solve it and make good records. If not, please contact

the support engineer of the equipment operator, meanwhile
contact the local office of ZTE CORPORATION. Continue
handling the fault by telephone guidance from the local
office.
 Emergency Maintenance

If it is solved, please make good records and analysis. If it

cannot be solved, the technical support engineer of ZTE
CORPORATION will go to the fault site or telenet the server
to handle the fault till it is removed. Make good records and
analyze the cause.
