Photography inspiration

Miguel Ribeiro
- Born in Lisbon, 18 August 1952.
Ribeiro creates abstract images using the human body, in a way to disguise what area of the body it is
being photographed. He uses black and white photography for atmosphere and to enhance the image.
Author of about 1000 medical slides and of all the B&W photographs of the collection of the Internal
Medicine Department of Kalafong Hospital.

From 2000 to 2008 I was concerned with the abstract depiction of my own body, its textures and
sculptural potential explored as an object, stripped of its human identity.

I sought to make a body part function as an autonomous subject and explore, in a more or less
abstract way, its sculptural potential or its texture, to depict it as an object stripped of its human
identity.

 Ernestine Ruben
- Born in Michigan July 19, 1931

Ernestine Ruben lives and works in New York City and is an internationally known artist, who
grew up surrounded by art and artists. She received degrees in the History of Art and Art
Education, and has taught art to all ages for many years as well as creating a mentor group and
has participated in many critiques.

She has photographed the human body with great emphasis on the human hand and applies her
love of life to landscapes and architecture. Of great importance to her is the reference to human
life and its interaction with our complexity of environments.
"How can our imaginations take on 'real life' qualities? Does light move, can the eye go
beyond that which one sees? Do we feel the flow of life? In their entirety, my works offer
a continuing reflection on human survival. I seek to make us aware of the sensuous
character of body, spirit, nature, space, and material of the interpenetration of the
unnumbered dimensions of our environment and of the intersection of those dimensions

 Shinichi Maruyama
- Born in Nagano, Japan 1968

I tried to capture the beauty of both the human bodys figure and its motion.
The figure in the image, which is formed into something similar to a sculpture, is created by
combining 10,000 individual photographs of a dancer.
By putting together uninterrupted individual moments, the resulting image as a whole will appear to
be something different from what actually exists.
With regard to these two viewpoints, a connection can be made to a human beings perception of
presence in life.
