Chillan The most austral city that maintained contact with Santiago
after the earthquake, had a 20 % of its buildings damaged
Talcahuano It was with the 65 % of their destroyed homes and a 20 %

city of Concepcin had more than 125 dead and 2000 homes razed.
The bridge over the River Biobo collapsed in three sections, while the plant of the Huachipato steel was

Valdivia and its environs were the areas most affected by the natural disaster in 1960. The 40 % of the

river overflowed, inundating much of the center of the city, which led to the evacuation of the
neighborhoods of Collico, Las Animas and Teja Island. The main buildings, such as the Fire Department
and the hospital, were rendered unusable.
The nearby port of Corral suffered the scourge of the tsunami that dragged to a large part of its
population, leaving hundreds of people dead and missing. The bay in which flows the river Valdivia
received various boats dragged by the waves: the Carlos Haverbeck and Canelos, the vapors Prat and
Santiago, tugs Pacific and Chanchorro and the vessel for the dredging of the Covadonga, many of whom
