DEGRADATON
 Marine Environment
It is a kind of pollution which is found throughout the worlds
oceans ,which cover two thirds of the planets surface.
Marine debris, sewage, industrial waste, farm runoff, storm
water runoff etc . all contribute to marine pollution.
The effects of degradation can be seen in places like
Antarctica and Bering sea.
There are major national and international efforts to control
pollution from shipping.
Clean up has been started in some areas with some initial
success.
 OZONE LAYER
The major problem today we are facing in the
world is ozone layer depletion.
It is caused due to the use of chlorofluorocarbons
(CFCs) which is used by the industries as
refrigerants and in polystyrene products.
When CFC is released in atmosphere it eats away
ozone layer.
This layer is important because it protects us
from ultraviolet rays which cause skin cancer.
 SMOG AND AIR POLLUTION
SMOKE+FOG=SMOG.
It is a type of air pollutant.
It also leads to acid rain which is caused by
release of sulphur dioxide and nitrogen oxide
which react with water molecules in the
atmosphere to produce acids.
The release of carbon monoxide, nitrogen oxide
from automobiles leads to smog and acid rain.
 VANISHING FORESTS
It is a major global concern.
Factors which are causing this problem are:
deforestation,industrialisation,extensive
logging etc.
It is also disrupting climate and weather
pattern.
 GLOBAL WARMING
The increase in the temperature of the earth
surface due to human activities .
It is caused due to increase in greenhouse
gases like CO2 ,methane.
It is also due to overpopulation and activities
such as deforestation,urbanisation etc.
 AGRICULTURE AND ENVIRONMENT
DEGRADATION
To make land more productive the use of chemical
fertilizers ,pesticides has been increased.
Modern agriculture has increase the food productivity.
To supply extensive irrigation, surfae water has been
diverted and there is increase in competition for land
and water resources.
The people are doing deforestation for agriculture ,
overgrazing leads to the environmental degradation.
And atlast due to which our many natural resources
has been depleted.
 THE POPULATION FACTOR
We people are also responsible for environment
degradation.
We degarde environment directly when we comsume
resources and indirectly when we extract resources
and transform them up into products that we want.
As with the increase in population there is increase in
demand of resources .
Energy shortages have been greater impact on
developing nations.
 RESOURCE USE
Resource use depends on us that how we are
using the resources and in how much quantity
we are using them.
The overpopulation is the major cause in
resource depletion and environment
degradation .
But in some regions the population is few and
they are also using resources in excess manner.
 POPULATION DISTRIBUTION
It is one of the factor for environment
degradation.
As large number of people are indulged in
industrial activity and due to this there is rise
in water and air pollution.
When people are fail to control waste and
recycle and conserve it then it leads to
environment degradation.
 ENERGY CRISIS
Energy crisis is a great price rise in the supply
of energy resources to an economy.
There has been increase in global demand for
energy as a result of population growth and
industrial development.
Supply of energy is therefore far less than the
actual demand.
