COUNTABLE NOUNS
The countable nouns are those that can be counted and have
plural.
o A countable noun can be:
I eat a banana every day.
Singular (banana)

Plural (bananas)
I like bananas.

o Banana is a countable noun.


o We can put an s on a countable noun: Bananas.
o We can say one banana ,two bananas etc.
COUNTABLE NOUNS
We add -es to most nouns in -o:

tomato tomatoes

potato potatoes
But we just add -s to:

radio radios

photo photos

UNCOUNTABLE NOUNS
The uncountable nouns are those that can not be counted.

I eat rice everyday.


Rice is an uncountable noun.
An uncountable noun has only one form. (rice)
We cant put an s on an uncountable noun.
We cant say one rice, two rices, etc.

When is A/AN used ?

Use A or AN with singular countable nouns.


Use AN when the noun begings with VOWEL SOUND!
EXAMPLE:
She needs a box of milk.
We buy a car.
Saying says: an Apple a day keeps the doctor
away!
I have to wear a uniform.
I study in a university.
SOME / ANY
Some and any are used to state the quantity, amount of
something.
When using some or any, the exact number is not stated.
Some and any can be used when:
The exact number is not known.
The exact number is not important or relevant.
Some and any are used with countable and
uncountable nouns.
When is SOME used ?
Use SOME+UNCOUNTABLE and PLURAL COUNTABLE in
affirmative sentences and offerings.
EXAMPLES:
There is some rice.
There are some apples.
Would you like some tea.
I drank some coffee.
When is ANY used ?
Use ANY+uncountable or plural countable, in
QUESTIONS and NEGATIVE SENTENCES.
EXAMPLES:
Is there any bread?.
No, there isnt any bread.
Are there any onions?.
There are not any onions.

How much ....? = uncountable nouns

For example: How much coffee do you drink?

How many ....? = countable nouns
