Aim of The Project
Heart Disease is one of the most catastrophic and life threatening
health issue nowadays.

Early prediction of heart disease is an important solution to reduce its

effects on health. In this project we will use decision tree- J48
algorithm for the detection of heart disease.

This project discover and extract hidden knowledge associated with

heart disease from historical heart disease dataset.

3
Introduction

Introduction
The healthcare industry collects huge amounts of healthcare data which,
unfortunately, are not mined to discover hidden information for effective
decision making.

Advanced data mining techniques can help remedy this situation. This
research has developed a prototype Heart Disease Detection System using
data mining techniques, namely, Decision Trees, Nave Bayes and Neural
Network.

It can answer complex what if queries which traditional decision support

systems cannot.

4
Data Mining
Data mining combines statistical analysis, machine learning and database
technology to extract hidden patterns and relationships from large databases.

Fayyad defines data mining as a process of nontrivial extraction of implicit,

previously unknown and potentially useful information from the data stored
in a database.

HDDS is Web-based, user-friendly, scalable, reliable and expandable. It is

implemented on the Java platform

Data mining uses two strategies: supervised and unsupervised learning.

5
Cloud Computing

Cloud Computing provides us a means by which we can access the

applications as utilities, over the internet. It allows us to create, configure, and
customize the business applications online.

The term Cloud refers to a Network or Internet. In other words, we can say
that Cloud is something, which is present at remote location. Cloud can
provide services over network, i.e., on public networks or on private
networks, i.e., WAN, LAN or VPN.

Applications such as e-mail, web conferencing, customer relationship

management (CRM),all run in cloud.

Literature Survey

1. Data Mining in Clinical Decision Support Systems for Diagnosis,

Prediction and Treatment of Heart Disease.

In year 2013 Syed Umar Amin, Kavita Agarwal, Dr. Rizwan Beg et. al.
performed a work .With the help of this study the author concluded that
there is large amount of data available in medical institutions, but this
data is not properly use. The studies reveal the fact that the systems
should be built which not only are accurate and reliable but also reduce
cost of treatment and increase patient care.

7
2. An Efficient Classification Tree Technique for Heart Disease
Prediction.

In year 2013, S. Vijiyarani et. Al. performed a work. This paper

analyzes the classification tree techniques in data mining. The
classification tree algorithms used and tested in this work are
Decision Stump, Random Forest, and LMT Tree algorithm. This
work is done by using Waikato Environment for Knowledge
Analysis(WEKA).[2]

3. Diagnosis Of Heart Disease Using Data mining Algorithm

This is proposed by S. Palaniappan and R. Awang. In this approach

the initial diagnosis of a heart attack is made by a characteristic
electrocardiogram (ECG) changes. The accuracy with this technique
is 52.33%. They proposed Intelligent Heart Disease Prediction
System Using Data Mining Techniques. This research has developed
a prototype Intelligent Heart Disease Prediction System(IHDPS)
using data mining techniques, namely, Decision Trees, Nave Bayes
and Neural Network.[3]

9
Methodology

HDDS uses the CRISP-DM methodology to build the mining models.

It consists of six major phases:
1. Business understanding
2. Data understanding
3. Data preparation
4. Modeling
5. Evaluation
6. Deployment

There are 14 attributes we were used as an input for

the classifications.

10
J48 Algorithm:-
J48 is an extension of ID3. The additional features of J48
are accounting for missing values, decision trees pruning,
continuous attribute value ranges, derivation of rules, etc.

j48 is a open source java implementation of decision tree

algorithm ( algorithm of supervised learning based on id3
algortithm) in weka which is a data mining tool.

Conclusion
This project deals with the development of Heart Disease
Detection System based on data mining and cloud computing.
Identification results are shared with physicians via web, which
are saved online in the records of the patient. Classification
model will be able to answer more complex queries in the
prediction of heart attack diseases. Heart Disease is a fatal
disease by its nature which makes life threatening complexities
such as heart attack and death. The importance of data mining
and cloud in the medical domain is realized and steps are taken
to apply relevant techniques in the disease prediction.
