describes actions or events in a time before now, which began in

the past and is still going on at the time of speaking

indicates continuing action, something that was happening,

going on, at some point in the past.

In other words, it expresses an unfinished or incomplete action in

the past

This tense is formed with the helping "to be" verb, in the past tense,
plus the present participle of the verb (with an -ing ending)
USAGE OF PAST PROGRESSIVE
1. Puts emphasis on the course of an action in the past

Example: He was playing football.

2. Two actions happening at the same time (in the past)

Example: While she was preparing dinner, he was

washing the dishes.

3. Action going on at a certain time in the past

Example: When I was having breakfast, the phone

suddenly rang.

auxiliary verbs will and be in sentence.

 INTERROGATIVE SENTENCE

Interrogative sentence starts with auxiliary verb will

and auxiliary verb be comes after subject in
interrogative sentence.

dad. One day, we were driving through a small village. It was

eating , drinking and chatting . A musician was playing the
violin. But there was something strange about the people . They
weren't wearing normal , modern clothes. They were wearing
hats, jackets and dresses from another century . We couldn't
understand it. But we were hungry , so we opened the door .

When we went into the restaurant, everything was

different. The people were wearing normal clothes. The
musician wasn't there- the music was on CD. It was a very
strange experience !
