Writing Process

5 Steps
1. Prewriting (Brainstorm)
In this step, you will gather your thoughts depending on the
topic you are writing about.
Form your ideas for writing.
Gather information.
Make a list, web, picture, etc.
Example of Brainstorming
2. Writing (draft)
After gathering your thoughts, you may start to write
and address the topic. This will become your first draft
of writing.
There is no revising and editing during the
development of your first draft.

3. Revising (add information)
After writing your first draft, your next step is to
read over your writing and determine how to
make it better.
You can expand ideas.
You add details.
Change words
4. Editing (make corrections)
You make corrections in spelling, grammar, and
punctuation.
Read over your work again and be sure you make any
necessary corrections.
Check capitals and ending punctuations.
Make sentences complete.
Exercise of Editing
At the start of school Dora was afrad of her new Teacher.
Mrs. Davis seamed nice, but she had so manny rules for
the class to folow. Scare someone to pieces. As the school
year cotinued, Dora begun to understan how the Teacher
come up with the rules The rules were their so students
would be respecful of theyselves and each other. By the
end of the year, Dora though Mrs. Davis was the best
Teacher she evere had!
5. Publishing (share it with others)
You write your final draft.
You publish it by sharing it with someone else.

Descriptive Essay: Popcorn
1. Brainstorm
2. Prewriting
I. (Introduction) Microwave popcorn appealed to our five senses
while we prepared it. There were many things we could smell,
see, hear, taste, and touch about popcorn.
II. (Body) Popcorn is a food that aroused our senses of sight, smell
and sound.
A. While the popcorn was popping, we saw several things.
1. Corn
2. Bumpy white balls
3. Jumpy yellow balls

B. We could also smell it.
1. Delicious
2. Good
C. The sound of the popcorn was interesting.
1. Pop, loud
2. Crunchy
3. Fireworks

III. Taste and touch were the other senses that the popcorn affected.
A. We put the popcorn in our mouths and tasted it.

B. Finally, we felt the microwave popcorn.
