I need to put this on credit, Mr.
David. While I was waiting for the
answer, the farmer raised an
eyebrow, then threw me an
amused, cynical look. But Mr.
Davids face didnt change a bit.
Sure, he said with a firm nod.
He is one of Sotero Garcias
sons, he told the farmer.
Inference: Sotero Garcias name was as good
as cash to the storeowner. Therefore, he
must have been a good debtor in that store.
My husband and I were in the
woods searching for some
hard-to-find wild berries
when I fell over some logs. In
quite a bit of despair, I yelled
for my husband who rushed
right over. With a look of
great concern, he asked, Did
you spill the berries?
When one of the salesmen in our office
arrived two hours late for work, he
sheepishly explained that he and his
wife had been arguing the previous
night. If you cant speak to me nicely,
you shouldnt speak at all, he had
yelled at her. Then he spent the night on
the sofa. The next morning he awoke to
find the sun high up, the house quiet
and his wife long gone to work. A note
on the coffee table beside him said,
Bryan, its time to wakeup.
At the end of the semester, the
instructor handed out course
evaluation forms to his
students. Trying to be funny,
I asked in a loud voice, How
do you spell incompetent?
Im not sure, replied the
professor, but I think it
begins with an F.

when, where, why and
how questions in mind

of the issue or topic
discussed in the original
piece
A summary is an
overview of a text
