Introduction

• Don Bsco Ashalayam Is an organization working


with the street children and the young at risk. It is
part of the Don Bosco Global Network spread
across 139 countries, running educational
institutions, vocational technical training centers and
community empowerment projects, providing
various services to young people around the globe.
Its inspiration came from Don Bosco, a widely
acclaimed educationist of the 19th century.

Ashalayam – A Shelter Home
Ashalayam Shelter Home is a rehabilitation center with the capacity of
accommodating 150 children. It offers children a clean and secure home away
from a struggling existence for survival on the streets. The caring presence of
Fathers, Brothers and Sisters along with professional and trained staff, give these
children an opportunity to relieve their lost childhood. Ashalayam Shelter Home
provides the child overall education to build his future through formal and non-
formal education and vocational trainings.

Child Line
CHILDLINE is a national, 24-hours, free, emergency telephone helpline and
outreach service for children in need of care and protection. The Child line
number 1098 is a tall free number that is common in all the cities of India.
Initially started in Mumbai in June 1996, child line is currently operational in
74 cities. Child line aims to reach out the most marginalized children
between the age group of 0-18 years, and provides intervention of shelter,
medical, repatriation, rescue, death related, sponsorship, and emotional
support and guidance.

Child Line West Zone:
Child Line, West Delhi, under DBA, covers a large area spread out through
west, southwest, northwest, and east west of Delhi. It covers around 139 slum
clusters, 9 railway stations, 17 bus terminals and 17 vegetable markets.
Everyday around 120 to 130 miscellaneous calls and 07 to 09 intervention calls
are received.

Objectives:
To make children aware of the need to be responsible in society and to help the
choose a trade or education in order to mould their future.
To sensitize collateral agencies like the police, hospitals, railways and schools,
towards the problems faced but the children and to develop necessary
intervention strategies.
To provide the general public an opportunity to respond to children in need
To provide a platform for networking among likeminded organizations to create
a child friendly atmosphere in the zone.
To provide a free forum for children to express themselves.
To respond to children in difficult situations and refer them to various
professional services available in the city.
