OF APPAREL RETAIL STORES
INTRODUCTION

Sales promotions are short-term incentives to


encourage the purchase or sale of a product or
service.

Examples of devices used in sales promotion


include coupons, samples, premiums, point-of-
purchase (POP) displays, contests, rebates, and
sweepstakes.
There are three types of sales promotion strategies:
Push, Pull, or a combination of the two.
A push strategy involves convincing trade intermediary channel members
to "push" the product through the distribution channels to the ultimate
consumer via promotions and personal selling efforts. Typical tactics
employed in push strategy are: contest, discount etc
A pull strategy attempts to get consumers to "pull" the product from the
manufacturer through the marketing channel. typical tactics employed in
pull strategy are: samples, coupons, cash refunds and rebates
Examples of combination strategy are cash back guarantee or some dealer
incentives.
OBJECTIVE OF THE STUDY

To study the sales promotion activities conducted by the


selected three modern apparel retail outlets , namely
Pantaloon Retail (I) Ltd., Lifestyle, Shoppers stop,
Westside.

To study the current scenario of the retail industry in India.

To study the current scenario of the apparel industry in India.

To understand the importance of sales promotion activities.


RESEARCH METHODOLGY
Two basic approach to research, quantitative approach
and the qualitative approach.

i. Generation of data in quantitative form.

ii. Assessment of attitudes, opinions and behavior.

AREA OF STUDY:

Exclusively done in the area of marketing.

RESEARCH DESIGN:

Exploratory Research.

DATA COLLECTION:

Secondary research about the industry with the


help of some text books and also through the
internet.

Personal interviews with few of the staffs to gain


the in-depth knowledge about the seasonal and
non-seasonal sales promotion activities conducted
by the stores.

REASONS FOR REJECTION

Less scope for exploration.

Low availability of secondary data.

Not much popular among the masses.

Not acceptable by all age groups.

Subdues a womans body appeal.


Not acceptable to some societies.

It shows a very degrading view toward women.
