thermocouple and analyse tool wear and surface roughness of work material through ANSYS software PCD (POLLYCRYSTALLINE DIAMOND)
Diamond grit that has been fused together under high
temperature and pressure in the presence of catalytic metal. Advantage of using PCD over other tools 1. It has longer life. 2. It is more shock resistant over other tools. 3. It is constant in wear because of random orientation of diamond. 4. Easily available in large variety of shapes and sizes. DIE STEEL (HIGH CARBON STEEL) Composition of 0.55%- 0.95% carbon, with 0.30%- 0.90%manganese. Its structure consists of one carbon atom attached with 4 other carbon atoms with covalent bonds and a great amount of energy is required to separate them hence they become superhard materials due to which they prove to be a better tool as compared to tools made with common abrasives made such as corundum and silica carbide. Properties 1. High strength 2. Hardness 3. Wear resistance 4. Low friction coefficient 5. High melting point INTRODUCTION TO THERMOCOUPLES Thermocouples are the most common sensors used in high- temperature measurements. A thermoelectric electromagnetic-force (emf) or voltage results when two dissimilar metals are joined together that produce an output voltage that is proportional to temperature. The thermocouple probes are typically located remotely from the cutting zone and are connected to the junctions via the thermocouple wires. Embedded thermocouples were one of the earliest thermocouples used for the estimation of temperatures in various manufacturing applications. In order to use this technique in machining, a number of fine deep holes have to be made in the cutting tool, and the thermocouples are inserted in the interior of the tool as close to the surface as possible. TEMPERATURE MEASUREMENT WITH EMBEDDED THERMOCOUPLE The standard thermocouple monitors the job temperature at a certain depth from the cutting zone. This temperature becomes maximum when the thermocouple comes nearest to the cutting zone.
For getting an exact value of the cutting
temperature, the distance H between the thermocouple and cutting zone should be zero which is not possible. So in order to find the cutting temperature a graph between Tmax vs. H is plotted and extrapolated to H=0 for getting the actual cutting zone temperature. STANDARD K- TYPE THERMOCOUPLE
This is the most common thermocouple type that
provides widest operating temperature range. These are widely used because they are nickel based and have good corrosive resistance. Positive leg is non- magnetic and negative leg is magnetic Vulnerable to sulphur attack
Perform best in clean oxidizing atmosphere.
EXPERIMENTAL SETUP
Embedded thermocouple will be made by our
group. Experimental setup will be carried out in the college lab itself Near about 7000-8000 rupees will be invested ANALYSIS OF OUTCOMES
On performing the experiment certain
observations are taken. ANSYS software is used, where results are feeded and structure of tool is analysed. ANSYS is the flagship mechanical engineering software that uses finite element analysis (FEA) for structural analysis using the ANSYIS Mechanical interface. THANK YOU
