ROLLING

The rolling should begin from edges with the

roller running forward and backward until edges have
been compacted. The roller should overlap each
preceding wheel track proceeding wheel track by one
half width.
Application of Screening
The screenings are spread gradually to fill the voids.
Dry rolling should be done so that the vibrations will cause
the screenings to settle into the voids.
Application of Binding Material
Binding material should be applied at a uniform and slow rate in
two or more thin layers. The surface is rolled with a 6-10 tonnes
roller during which water shall be applied to the wheels to wash
down the binding material stuck to them.
 After final compaction of the course, the road shall be
allowed to cure overnight. Traffic will be allowed after the
macadam sets.
