 Nicols Maquiavelo
(1469-1527), Italian philosopher,
politician and diplomat one of the
most
important representatives of the
Renaissance. Between his most
famous works are The Prince and
Speeches of the First Decade of Livy.
 The true and authentic objective of
politics has been and should remain to
be the good common, human and
material development of all citizens
through health, education, culture,
etc.
 Common good: conditions for social
life that rulers must provide for all
human beings to reach their
fulfillment.
It implies respect for life and dignity,
material welfare, justice and peace.
 Politics: human actions aimed at
resolving social conflicts arising from
the government, promoting the values
and the common good.
 The state is the sovereign form of
organization on a territory and a
population. It is made of institutions
(Government army) who have the
authority to regulate
and maintain order within it.
 The state exercises administrative
control over a geographical space
called territory as well as on natural
resources and the people who inhabit
it. This control is exercised through
institutions such as the army, the
legal system and government. The
state is autonomous and independent,
which means that it is sovereign.
 NATION is a large body of people,
associated with a particular territory,
that is sufficiently conscious of its
unity to seek or to possess a
government peculiarly of its own.
 SOVEREIGNTY is the quality or state of
being sovereign, or of having supreme
power or authority.
The status, dominion, power, or authority
of a sovereign; royal rank or position;
royalty.
Supreme and independent power or
authority in government as possessed or
claimed by a state or community.
POPULATION the total number of persons
inhabiting a country, city, or any district
or area the body of inhabitants of a place.
The number or body of inhabitants in a
place belonging to a specific social,
cultural, socioeconomic, ethnic, or racial
subgroup.
 TERRITORY any tract of land; region or
district. The land and waters belonging to
or under the jurisdiction of a state,
sovereign, etc. Any separate tract of land
belonging to a state.
DEMOCRACY government by the people; a
form of government in which the supreme
power is vested in the people and
exercised directly by them or by their
elected agents under a free electoral
system.
