1. Introduction
1.1 Power Electronics
In 21st century, power electronics is playing a major
role in global industrialization and energy conservation.
The impact of power electronics has been seen in
almost several fields of engineering, such as
mechanical, aeronautics, textiles, robotics, mining and
marine.
The need for power electronics has increased over the
years due to the advantages of controlling electrical
energy.
1. Introduction
The Maximum Power Point Tracker (MPPT) is needed to optimize
the amount of power obtained from the photovoltaic array to the
power supply.
This paper presents in details implementation of Perturb and
Observe MPPT using boost Converters. Results such as
efficiency, current, voltage and output power for each various
combination have been recorded and produced for comparison.
The Simulation has been carried out in MATLAB Environment

et al of Advanced Research in Computer Engineering &
Technology Volume 1, Issue 5, July 2012 stated the
basic requirements for the MPPT. The main
contribution of this thesis was tracking the
maximum power point using a closed loop system
consisting of some power electronic devices such as
boost converter, rectifier and PV module as input
device. Instead of using semiconductor devices live
diodes IGBTs will be used

implemented P&O MPPT method with MATLAB-
SIMULINK for simulation. The MPPT method simulated in
this paper is able to improve the dynamic and steady
state performance of the PV system simultaneously.
Through simulation it is observed that the system
completes the maximum power point tracking
successfully despite of fluctuations. When the external
environment changes suddenly the system can track the
maximum power point quickly. Both buck and buck-boost
converters have succeeded to track the MPP but, buck
converter is much more effective specially in suppressing
the oscillations produced due the use of P&O technique.

undari et al. by Perturb and Observe Method Using Buck Boost
Converter. In the Present Work, the maximum power
point tracking is successfully carried out by this research
using perturb and observe method. The PV module
working on photovoltaic effect actually improves the
system efficiency. Compared to other methods of
maximum power point tracking, the perturb and observe
method seems to be easy for the optimization of the
photovoltaic system using buck boost converter.
6. JCU Pea et. al A comparative study of MPPT strategies and a novel singlephase

systems presents presents the analysis of some usual MPPT
(Maximum Power Point Tracking) strategies intended for small
wind energy conversion (up to 1kW) based on permanent
magnet synchronous generators (PMSG), considering the stand-
alone application for a novel buck-boost integrated inverter.
3. Problem Identification
In PV Solar system applications, it is very necessary to design a system for
operating of the photo Voltaic Cell under best conditions and highest efficiency.

MPPT( Maximum power point Tracking) varies depending on the angle of sunlight
on the surface of the panel which is often referred as irradiance and cell
temperature measured in Kelvin. Therefore, the operating point of the load is not
always MPPT of PV system. Therefore, in order to supply efficient and reliable
energy to the system, MPPT based PV architecture designed to include more than
the required number of modules.

The solution to this problem is that switching power converters are used, that is
called maximum power point tracker (MPPT). In this study, the various aspects of
these algorithms have been analyzed in detail. Classifications, definitions, and
basic equations of the most widely used MPPT technologies are given in the
following sections.

BOOST CONVERTER CIRCUIT

Boost converter steps up the input voltage magnitude to a required output voltage

magnitude without the use of a transformer. The main components of a boost converter

are an inductor, a diode and a high frequency switch.

Maximum Power Point Tracking
Algorithms
Two MPPT algorithms were considered:
Incremental Conductance Method
By comparing incremental conductance with
instantaneous conductance.
Perturb & Observe Method
By periodically perturbing the PV array voltage
and comparing the output power with that of the
previous cycle. The operating point oscillates
around the MPP since the system is continuously
perturbed.

FUTURE SCOPE

The project can be implemented in Incremental Conductance method and Parasitic Capacitance method for the
result analysis to get higher efficiency and power output.
In future, this approach can be applied for tracking the Maximum Power Point without using any type of
controller. Hence, reducing the cost and increasing the efficiency of the system. The basic advantage of only
using Perturb and Observe method is that when it is properly optimized it can offer very high Maximum Power
Point Tracking efficiency, which is highly competitive against other Maximum Power Point Tracking
algorithms.
