THE NORTHERN MOUNTAIN RANGES
The Northern Mountain Ranges in India are
the Himalayan Mountain Ranges. The
Himalayas stand on the north of India. The
Himalayas are the highest mountains in the
world and extend west-east between the
Indus and the Brahmaputra in an arcuate
form. Their length is about 2400 km and
breadth on an average 240 km.
The northern mountain are divided into
three part:-
1) The Siwalik Mountains,
2)himadri
3)himachal
THE NORTHERN PLAINS
The great northern
Plains extends from
Punjab plains in the
West to the bramhap-
-utra valley in the
East. It has been
Formed by three rivers namely the
indus ,the ganga and the bramhaputra.
These plains are very fertile due to
alluvial soil.
THE DESSERTS
The Thar Desert, also
known as the Great Indian
Desert, is a large, arid
region in the
northwestern part of
the indian subcontinent
that forms a natural
boundary
between India and Pakista
n. It is the world's 17th
largest desert, and the
world's 9th largest
subtropical desert. About
85% of the Thar Desert is
in India, and the remaining
15% is in Pakistan.
THE PENINSULAR PLATEAU
The Peninsular
plateau is a
tableland. It is
composed of the old
crystalline, igneous
and metamorphic
rocks. The Peninsular
plateau is considered
the oldest land mass
as it was formed due
to the drifting of the
Gondwana land.
The plateau consists
of broad and shallow
valleys and rounded
hills.
THE COASTAL PLAINS
A coastal plain is flat,
low-lying land adjacent
to a seacoast. One of the
world's largest coastal
plains is located in
eastern South
America.The Gulf
Coastal Plain of North
America extends
northwards from
the Gulf of Mexico along
the Lower Mississippi
River to the Ohio River,
which is a distance of
about 500 miles (800 km).
THE ISLANDS
India has two clusters of islands the
Lakshadweep islands in arabian sea
it is also known as coral islands .
And another is Andaman and nicobar
islands in the bay of Bengal . These
islands have thick forests . Andaman
and nicobar consists of about 233
islands and Lakshadweep consists of
about 36 islands .
