Why Consider EvoTM-e Wireless GigE?

Cost for high-speed leased lines are expensive

Up to and beyond $5,000/month (GigE)
Time to install wireless is much shorter
Need connection in <30 days but leased-line option is 3-6 months out
Want alternative technology for primary and/or backup link
Safeguards in case service provider has a fiber cut
Want control of their network
In terms of cost and maintenance

Value Proposition: Fiber-like performance without the cost and delays of implementing fiber

MMW Technology Myths Debunked
Affected by Fog and Clouds?
No: Thick fog with a visibility of 50 m (150 foot) has a density of about 0.1 g/m3, which yields an
almost negligible attenuation of 0.4 dB/km at MMW frequencies
Affected by Sand and Dust Storms?
No: Sand particles and storms are essentially invisible to e-band systems; This is because waves
only scatter off objects of physically similar sizes to the wavelength, but do not scatter off particles
much smaller than the wavelength
Evo-e wavelengths are about 3.4 mm (about one-sixth of an inch) & only scatter off solid objects
about the same size - i.e. large rain drops. Smaller objects such as small raindrops, sand, dust,
fog (water vapor), pollutants, etc, are too small to have any scattering effect.

Short Range?
Range is region dependent: In a city such as New York, a 2-mile/3km link can provide carrier-
grade 99.995% availability
For a drier climate such as Nevada or Saudi Arabia, even a 10-mile/16km link will be robust
enough for carrier services.
Affected by Rain?
Yes: but only torrential rainstorms with large size raindrops; your average rainfall has little impact.

12
Nera Networks Singapore
Configuring for Rain Zones

Intense rain (not average amount)

limits wireless technologies reach
However, rain patterns are well
documented and network planners
can predict wireless technology
performance with very high
certainty

13
Nera Networks Singapore
Performance at 3-5km across the Americas
Approximate distances with Carrier Grade availability 99.995%:
New York City ~1.7miles; Sao Paulo ~ 3.0km
Los Angeles, San Francisco ~2.8miles; Lima Peru ~ 3.5km
Salt Lake City, Las Vegas ~4 miles; Mexico City ~ 3.0km

Fresnel Zone Clearance Line-of-sight

The Fresnel Zone is the area around the visual line-of-sight that radio waves
spread out into after they leave the antenna. There should be no obstructions
within this area.

EvoTM-e 1000LR - Competitive Advantages

Highest output power in the industry, +23dBm and highest antenna gain in the
industry at 45dBi with 1ft; Evo-e has ~7dB higher link margin than main
competitor
This allows us to provide GigE rates when competitor has to kick in Adaptive Rate and
reduce throughput up to 90% (~ 100Mbps)

This ensures ~25% longer distance with the same availability as competitor; or gives
one-nine better availability at the same distance
Radio is half weight (8.5lbs/3.9kg), half size (Diameter 9.99 in x Height 3.12 in),
and consumes half the power (32W vs. 70W) compared to main competitor
PoE or -48 VDC inputs
Field-replaceable GigE interface: MM, SM fiber or Copper (RJ45).
Field upgradable to 2Gbps full duplex (2.5Gbps over the air)
MultiPort Indoor unit with up plug-and-play interface modules up to 23xE1/T1,
3xSTM1, 4xEthernet 10/100/1000BaseT
