Biography
Marxism is an economic and social system in the mid 19 th century

Based upon the political and economic theories of Karl Marx and Friedrich
Engels
Theories of Marxism are categoried into a group called Dialectal Materialism

Economic structure - is the main driving force behind all social conditions and
historical changes

Marx considers human history as a series of struggles between classes


Marxists believe in Empirical Evidence

Another component of Marxism is Determinism

The aim of Marxism is to bring about a classless society based on the


common ownership

KARL MARX
1818

He was born in 5 May. In wealthy class family.


His father was well known lawyer and his
mother was from a business family. She was an
owner of Phillipes electronic.

Karl Marx is enrolled at the Trier Gymnasium
1830
August-September 24, 1835
Marx graduates from the Trier Gymnasium and receives his school-leaving certificate.
Begin his studies at the university of Bonn where he studied law despite wishing to study philosophy and
literature. He was not interest in the subject and that cause him a poor grade. After that he transferred to
university of Berlin.
March 30-early April 1841
He completed his doctoral thesis titled: The Difference Between the Democritean
and Epicurian Philosophy of nature. This thesis caused some argument.
1842

He move to Colonge and begin to write


for the newspaper Rheinische Zeitung. It
becomes a forum for his polictical
socialist view. Marx will is against all of
the comments, caused two seperated
publications to be banned.
1843

Marx married Jenny Von


Westphalen. The marriage
breaks social inhibid.
Breaking down both regious
and class barriers.

German Idealogy
published for the first
time in 1932.

Ill for 15 months and dies on 14th March.

Burried in Highgate Cemetery on the 17th March


Structure
In Marxism, Marxian class theory asserts that an individuals position within a class hierarchy is
determined by his or her role in the production process, and argues that political and ideological
consciousness is determined by class position. A class is those who share common economic interests, are
conscious of those interests, and engage in collective action which advances those interests.

Capitalists : production and purchase the labor power of others

Workers : do not own any means of production or the ability to purchase the labor power of others

A small : Transitional class known as the petite bourgeoisie
