Additional information

Kindly memorize the z values of 5% level of significance

for exam.

Kindly bring t table, chi square table and anova table for
exam.
Incase a question on homogenous population is
asked and combined population standard
deviation is not given.
You can calculate combined sigma by following
method.

*In Exam questions, Combined Sigma will be

given.

Correlation Coefficient
Correlation indicates the statistical dependence between two random variables. It is the
measure of the relationship between two sets of data.
For example - Correlation between height and weight of students of a particular standard
refers to the overall relationship between their height and weight that in what manner they
vary. Correlation is of two types -
(1) Positive Correlation - When the values of one variable increase with that of another are
increased.
(2) Negative Correlation - When the values of one variable decrease with that of another are
increased or vice versa.
(3) No Correlation - There is no impact on one variable with an increase or decrease of
values of another variable.
The correlation between two variables is a number which is known as a correlation
coefficient. Correlation Coefficient is a statistical concept, which helps in establishing a
relation between the predicted and actual values obtained in a statistical experiment.
The calculated value of the correlation coefficient explains the exactness between the
predicted and actual values. Its value always lies between -1 to +1. If the value of the
correlation coefficient is positive, it indicates the similar and identical relation between the
two values. Whereas negative value indicates the dissimilarity between the two values.
Some examples for practice

1) Calculate and analyze the correlation coefficient

between the number of study hours and the number of
sleeping hours of different students.

Number of
2 4 6 8 10
Study hours

Number of
10 9 8 7 6
Sleeping hours
2) Calculate coefficient of
correlation

Subject Age x Glucose Level y

1 43 99
2 21 65
3 25 79
4 42 75
5 57 87
6 59 81
3) Calculate the coefficient of rank correlation from the following data:

X 48 33 40 9 16 16 65
24 16 57

Y 13 13 24 6 15 4 20
9 6 19
4) Use Spearman's formula to find the
rank Correlation Coefficient.
The values of the same 15 students in two subjects A
and B are given below; the two numbers within the
brackets denoting the ranks of the same student in A
and B respectively.

(1,10) (2,7) (3,2) (4,6) (5,4) (6,8)

(7,3) (8,1).

(9,11) (10,15) (11,9) (12,5) (13,14)

(14,12) (15,13)
