INTRODUCTION

WHAT IS WIND ENERGY ?

RENEWABLE SOURCE OF ENERGY.
IT IS GENERATED BY CONVERTING THE KINETIC ENERGY
OF THE WIND INTO ELECTRICAL ENERGY
BASIC REQUIREMENT FOR HARNESSING
WIND ENERGY .
WIND
WINDMILL (WIND TURBINE)
THEN WILL COME SECONDARY THINGS LIKE
ALTERNATOR,MOTOR,CABLES FOR TRANSMISSION.
WIND MILL
WIND MILL CONVERTS THE ENERGY
OF WIND INTO ROTATIONAL ENERGY.
TYPES OF WIND MILL:
POST MILL
HOLLOW POST MILL
TOWER MILL
POST MILL

EARLIEST TYPE
OF WIND MILL.
NAME GIVEN,
BECAUSE OF THE
UPR IGHT POST ON
WHICH THE BODY OR
BUCK IS BALANCED.
HOLLOW POST SLIDE

THE BODY IS HOLLOWED

TO ACCOMODATE THE
DRIVER SHAFT.
MAKING IT EASY TO
DRIVE MACHINERY
BELOW THE BODY ITSELF.
TOWER MILL

MILLS WITH HIGH

HEIGHT.
CAN GENERATE MORE
POWER BECAUSE OF
HIGH HEIGHT.
GENERATOR
GENERATOR :
1) PRIME MOVER
2) ALTERNATOR

PRIME MOVER:
ROTATIONAL/MECHANICAL
ALTERNATOR:
MECHANICAL TO ELECTRICAL

WIND POWER PLANTS IN
INDIA
The development ofwind power in Indiabegan in the
1986 with firstwind farmsbeing set up in coastal areas
like,
Maharashtra(Ratnagiri),Gujarat(okha)
andTamilnaduwith 55kW Vestas wind turbines.
In the last few years and as of 31 Aug 2016 the installed
capacity of wind power in India was 27,676.55MW, mainly
spread across the South, West and North region. Although a
relative newcomer to the wind industry, compared with
countries such asDenmarkor theUnited States, by year
end 2015 India had thefourth largest installed wind power
capacity in the world. (behind 1.China, 2.USAand
3.Germany), having overtaken 5.Spain in 2015 and ahead
of 6.UK .
ADVANTAGES
Its is a clean , free , renewable energy
resource.
Its a clean fuel source.
Wind is a domestic source of
energy.
Its sustainable.
Wind power is cost effective.
Wind turbines can be built on
existing farms or ranches.
It does not emit greenhouse gases.
DISADVANTAGES

Cost issues.
Environmental concerns.
Supply and transport issues.
Location issues.
Noise problem.
Turbine blades harm wildlife.
Unstable power generation.
APPLICATION
oWind-powered vehicles.
oWind/Kite-Powered Cargo Ships.
oWind-Powered Water Pumps
oEnergy-generating wind turbines.

oEnergy so produced can also

be used
for domestic , industrial,
agricultural, transportation
purposes.
CONCLUSION

Many people are convinced that we need to

shift to renewable energy.
Renew sources include solar , wind, geothermal
and ocean energy
source and hydrogen fuel also including wind
energy.
Renewable energy sources have been held back
by inadequate
funding and by artificially cheap price for non-
renewable sources.
