INTRODUCTION
Maleic Anhydride
Maleic anhydride is an organic compound
with the formula C2H2(CO)2O.
It is produced industrially on a large scale
for applications in coatings and polymers.
The IUPAC name for maleic anhydride are
Furan-2 or 5-dione.
Selectivity
of maleic anhydride, the desired
product, was found by the following equation:

SAFETY
CHEMICAL DANGERS:
The substance decomposes on contact with water producing corrosive maleic acid.
The solution in water is a medium strong acid. Reacts with strong oxidants.
ROUTES OF EXPOSURE:
The substance can be absorbed into the body by inhalation of its aerosol, through the
skin and by ingestion.
INHALATION RISK:
A harmful contamination of the air can be reached rather quickly on evaporation of
this substance at 20C.
