Al-Qaeda

By: Cire, Jon and Lauren

Introduction to Al-Qaeda
Al-Qaeda, which is Arabic for The Base, is an Islamic extremist group
with a goal of ridding Muslim countries of Western influence and to
replace their government with fundamental Islamic regimes.

-Created by Osama Bin Laden and

Abdullah Azzam

-Has attacked many countries including

the US and it's embassies,Spain, the UK,
and France.
How did Al Qaeda form?
It was set up in 1989 when the Russian Army had left
Afghanistan

Many volunteers from Arab countries had gone to

Afghanistan in the 1980s to help the Afghans fight the
Russian Army

When the Russian Army was defeated they made Al Qaeda to

continue the Jihad against people the volunteers thought
were enemies of Islam
The Worlds Opinion on Al-Qaeda
In most countries, the majority of the public have
negative feelings toward Al-Qaeda, but in some
countries mostly Muslim have mixed opinions on
Al-Qaeda

Positive views of Al-Qaeda have greatly declined

but, in Muslim dominant countries to still
express favorable attitudes toward the group
Al-Qaeda
Al-Qaeda was formed in 1988 and since then they have made many
settlements in nearly every continent, but their core is in Southern Asia
and North Africa. This group is definitely global. But every country in the
world responded differently. For example, America believes they are not a
threat anymore, especially since ISIS has entered the big picture. But
before ISIS they were feared by Americans. A big event they have done
was 9/11 and flying a plane into the pentagon. Another country that was
hit by Al-Qaeda was Spain. They bombed Madrid which killed 202 and
injured 1,400. Spain teamed up and supported the USA to start a war in
Iraq. The last example is the London bombing in 2005. This was Londons
worst bombing since WWII. This when the U.K. entered the war with Spain
and the USA.
Al-Qaeda Continued
Since 9/11 occurred America tightened up on their security in airports
and in the sky. They have implemented metal detectors and multiple
stages of security. Also America has towers that can detect drones in
case there was an attack. America has also made a law called AUMF
(Authorization for Use Of Military Force). This law basically states that
America is allowed to use the Armed Forces against the people that
were responsible for 9/11. As for the future of Al-Qaeda, they currently
are seen as disbanded. But they aren't exactly done yet. Since Osama
bin Laden is dead, they do not have a leader anymore. So instead of
being a single group, they have paired up with multiple other groups to
make a network of S. small, anonymous terrorist groups.
