A video display unit (VDU) consists of:

A computer output device that

uses acathode ray tube or other
technology to present visual
images.

One or more input devices, such as

akeyboard, amouse, or both.
The term VDU is often synonymously used with monitor but it can
also refer to another type of display such as digital projector.
 Types Of Visual Display Units
Mainly there are Four types:

Plasma
Cathode Ray Tube (CRT)

Liquid Crystal Display (LCD)

Light Emitting Diode (LED)
 CRT

TheCathode Ray Tubeisavacuumtubecontaininganelectrongun(asource

ofelectrons)andafluorescentscreen,withinternalorexternalmeansto
accelerateanddeflecttheelectronbeam,usedtocreateimagesintheformof
lightemittedfromthefluorescentscreen.
 PLASMA
Aplasmadisplaypanel(PDP)isatypeofflatpaneldisplay.Theyarecalled
"plasma"displaysbecausethetechnologyutilizessmallcellscontaining
electricallychargedionizedgases,orwhatareinessencechambersmore
commonlyknownasfluorescentlamps.

ItworkswithtwotypesofgasesnamelyXenon&Neonsandwiched
between2glassplates.
 LCD
ALiquid Crystal Display(LCD) is aflat panel display that uses the light
modulatingpropertiesofliquidcrystalswhichdonotemitlightdirectly.Theyare
used in a wide range of applications, includingcomputer monitors,television,
instrumentpanels,aircraftcockpitdisplays,signage,etc.
EachpixelofanLCDtypicallyconsistsofalayerofmoleculesalignedbetween
two transparentelectrodes, and twopolarizingfilters, perpendicular to each
other. With no actualliquid crystal between the polarizing filters,lightpassing
throughthefirstfilterwouldbeblockedbythesecond.
 LED
ALight Emitting Diode(LED) is asemiconductorlight source.LEDs are used
asindicatorlampsinmanydevicesandareincreasinglyusedforotherlighting.
When a light-emittingdiodeis forwardbiased(switched on),electronsare able
torecombinewith electronwithin the device, releasing energy in the form
ofphotons. This effect is called electroluminescence. LED is powerful enough
for room lighting and are relatively expensive, require more precise current
andmanagement than compactfluorescent lampsources of comparable
output.
 How CPU interacts with computer?

InmostsystemstheCPUdoesn'tspeakwiththemonitordirectly;it
sendscommandstoagraphicscardwhichinturngeneratesanelectric
signalthatthemonitortranslatesintoapictureonthescreen.Thereare
manystepsinthisprocessandtheprocessingmodelissystem
dependent.

corner.
