LIPIST
Computation Intelligent in PV Power
Generation System (on going research)
Problem : Maximum Power Point Tracking of PV
system under Partial shading condition
Lets see first.. the characteristic of Power vs voltage in
PV system for normal condition
There is only one power
peak point in normal
condition..so the
standard P&O MPPT
technique will be O.K

Now.. Look what

happen if there is
partial shading..
LIPIST
Computation Intelligent in PV Power
Generation System (on going research)

There are multiple power peak

points in partial shading
condition..so the P&O MPPT
technique will be NOT O.K
By using the standard
Problem: How to find the most
P&O, the algortihms maximum point, or how to escape
can be traped in non from power shading quickly?
maximum peak point
LIPIST
Computation Intelligent in
Photovoltaic (on going research)
To find the right
maximum point (or
escaping from shading
points) as fast as
possible, we have utilized
P&O algorithm combined
with Firefly algorithm

Short overview about Firefly algorithm
Firefly algorithm is inspired by firefly behaviour:
1. The less brighter firefly will move to the brighter
firefly
2. The brightest firefly will move randomly
3. Environment condition affect firefly behavior

LIPIST
Computation Intelligent in
Photovoltaic (on going research)
Short overview about Firefly algorithm
1. The number of variable parameter in firefly
determine the dimension of firefly searching
2. The range of variable parameter determine
how wide or narrow range of searching
firefly
3. In MPPT optimization, there is only one
variable to be optimized : duty cycle, and
its range is very narrow (from 0 to 1)
4. So to get faster convergence, Its not
necessary to use and parameter
(simplified approach)
