Art Education Application
When teaching cultural identity to a high school class, students will be asked
to make a representation of their identity. Students will choose one social or
cultural group that they belong to and collect at least three images that relate
to that group. Students will then use the images they collected to create a
digital collage that represents their social or cultural identity. These images
will be presented to the class alongside an artist statement describing how the
students social or cultural group has influenced them as an artist.
Art Education Application
For an elementary level lesson the students will look at two toy ads. One
geared for boys and one for girls. Discuss the differences in the ads and how
they influence the roles of girls and boys. Have the kids write a short response
to Should boys and girls have to play with different toys? Why or why not?
Discuss the answers and identify gender stereotypes that is enforced in our
visual culture today.
