According to the Northhouse 2015 the term
transformational leadership first coined by
Downtown (1973) but it emerge as an important
approach with the classic work by James MacGregor
Burns (1978) in the shape of Leadership where he
attempted to link the roles of leadership to
followership and later enhanced by Bass (1985,
1998) and others (Givens 2008)

Burns 1978 defined transformation leadership as a


process where leaders and followers engage in a
mutual process or raising one another to higher
levels of morality and motivation.

Green 2010 warites that by applying transformational leadership style, school


leaders can develop positive relationship with their followers inside and outside
of schoolhouse and bound together in a set of common beliefs, values, and norms
by:
Empowering followers to make decisions
Creating a culture of collaboration
1. Sharing their power
2. Distributing leadership tasks
3. Inspiring other to led
4. Creating, managing and implementing instructional programs that meet needs
of all students

Transformational Leadership in School Scenario

A public girls high school where majority of students are from poor
marginalized community whereas, the staff including school principal are
from dominated caste. Student achievement rate is not good generally
and of girls from suppressed caste specifically as compared to other
school in the town. School principal has recently got leadership training
and want to improve student achievement rate with special focus on
girls from marginalized communities. She has developed following road
map to initiate transformational process in the school in order to
improve student achievement rate and promote collaborative and
equitable culture in the school;

Collect and analyze the information of stakeholder and develop


comprehensive stakeholder engagement plan.
Conduct organizational assessment and develop school improve plan
meeting the needs of diversified students with clear roles and
responsibilities of faculty (putting right people on right position and
develop effective and efficient operational procedures) and related
stakeholders
Collect socioeconomic information of parents and caregivers of
student and build relationships for improving the performance of
every child.
Transformational Leadership Road Map

Develop and ensure a system of accountability for every students academic


and social success to ensure that everyone is treated fairly and equitably with
dignity and respect and practice the principles of benefit maximization and
equal respect.
Networking at local, district, province and national forums to influence on the
decisions affecting students learning
Plan keeping in view the emerging trends and initiatives for getting best
results.
Apply the principles of distributive and facilitative leadership and develop the
capacity of faculty accordingly
Believe in democratic decision making towards the shared vision attainment.
