What are revising and editing?
Revising and editing are two distinct processes.

Revising is intentionally looking at ways of

improving your essay. Revision is an opportunity
to revisit and rethink your or someone elses
assignment or topic, who the intended reader or
audience is, and the purpose or thesis.

Editing is correcting the mechanics of your

essay like sentence structure, grammar,
punctuation, and spelling.
Self-Editing

reviewing an academic writing such as:
1. A strong thesis statement
2. Clear topic sentences
3. Specific supporting details
4. Coherence
5. Effective conclusion
6. Checking grammar and spelling errors
Peer-Editing
Peer editing is an interactive process
of reading and commenting on a
classmates writing. Here, you will
exchange your first draft with a
classmate, read each others work, and
make suggestion for improvement.
Peer feedback vs Teacher
feedback
Feedback enhances student achievement by
highlighting progress rather than deficiency.
Informal teacher feedback
Check-ups and check-ins are used to see how
students are progressing, answer questions or help
with ideas
Formal teacher feedback
Teacher can provide suggestions and comments along
with individualized goal setting

feedbacks.

ideas about your essay.
2. Identify and write down the main idea
of your partners essay.
3. Did you find any idea in the paper
difficult to understand?
4. Underline any idea you feel not clear.
5. What ideas for revision could you
suggest to your partner?
