Oil Level Sensor

Location: It is located in oil sump.

Uses:
1. To monitor and advice diagnosis system as well
as the driver when low oil level condition
occures in the engine crankcase and oil level
sensor.

2. Switch means which source maximum and

minimum level.
Working
When oil level is connect sensor which is grounded.
As soon as the ignition key switch is turned on the
PCM command the oil level lamp in the instrument
panel to illuminate for approximately 3 sec. This is
indicates bulb check.

This sensor is design to measure changes in

dielectric constant of oil hence capacitor.

In oil quantity sensor a complex voltage working

signal is injected into the oil at one electrode and
received by another electrode.
The signal transmission characteristic at different
frequency gives inside into key.

This sensor receives 5v reference signal and

output is between 0.5-4.5 .

With the variation in voltage sensor signal sends to

the PCM which gives oil change indication on
dashboard.

Types:
1.Flote type Sensor
2.Dielectric capacitor sensor
Testing:

Any time pcm perform no/ low oil

level and engine oil switch indicates
that a low oil level exit then the oil
level lamp illuminates for above
7mins to attract the driver
attention no action take then
engine malfunctioning lamp is
indicates.
A/C High Pressure Sensor

Ac pressure sensor is a device which

senses pressure and converts it into
an analog electric signal whose
magnitude depends upon the pressure
applied. Since they convert pressure
into an electrical signal.
Location:
It is located in the high pressure
pipeline of the compressor.
Function :
1) It is used in to control the pressure and
protect the device from low pressure
and high pressure.

2) With the help of the input ECU switch

on/ off the compressor.
Working :

1. The basic configuration of this sensor is tiny thin

switch disc with several resistance deposited in
series just in form the edge by microelectronic
production technique .

2. A DC signal voltage is produce by the sensor

which gets exited due varying air pressure which
is felt on the semi conductor

Type :
It is either piezo electric or resistive type sensor.
Needle Lift Sensor
First, and probably the most common
among these is a problem which relates to
the needle lift sensor.
This is built into injector number three and
its role is to inform the ECU about engine
stroke for ignition timing purposes.
A small rod is moved within a coil to
generate a voltage that can be interpreted
by the ECU.
Function
Needle lift sensor is a solenoid and is
supplied with a constant current by the
control unit. This produces a magnetic field.

A pressure pin inside the solenoid forms the

extension to the end of the injector needle .

The movement of the injector needle alters

the magnetic field and causes distortion of
the Dc voltage applied to the solenoid
The control unit calculates the actual
point of commencement of fuel
injection from the time difference
between the needle lift pulse and the
TDC signal supplied by the engine
speed sensor

At the same time the system

compares the actual point of
commencement of injection with the
setpoint stored in the control unit and
corrects any deviation from the
setpoint
