more about
SONGS
1. Remember Everything (Five Finger Death Punch)
most desired song at the moment.
2. Coming Down (Five Finger Death Punch) A
fantastic alternative should I desire a change.
3. The Pride (Five finger Death Punch) Good if I want
to just do a music video based on the music itself.
4. Wrong Side of Heaven (Five Finger Death Punch) A
fantastic song and a great way to get a message
across
5. House of the Rising Sun (Five Finger Death Punch)
A great song for Forming a narrative.
TECHNIQUES
In terms of what I want to do with my own video, I would like to follow
the Camera and Narrative techniques shown in Coming Down and
Remember Everything which will allow me to create a story in the
third person which follows the lyrics.
Also I quite like the idea of possibly editing the video to have an
auburn or black and white filter as the message I want to convey is
about the effects of mental illness and how it can create a monster
that hides within the body of an innocent, it will also most likely be in
a type of flashback form so perhaps the auburn look would be more
appropriate, considering thats what was used in Remember
Everything
There is also the possibility of me looking at creating a fantasy
setting much like House of the Rising Sun this would be a more
creative way of conveying a message and would leave a lot more
room for artistic flair, and thus is definitely something to consider.
CONVENTIONS
There is going to be a relationship between lyrics and
visuals within my music video as the music itself is far
less important in comparison to the lyrics as they are
going to help to convey the message I am trying to
show as the music is all well and good but to really
project this message I need to focus more on vocals.
MIND MAP OF IDEAS
[SUMMARY OF IDEAS]
Rather than a mind map I will just create a summary of my
ideas as I believe that the idea I currently have is very much set
in stone, so:
oI will be creating a music video using the song Remember
Everything by Five Finger Death Punch.
oThe video will revolve around the convention that uses a
relationship between the lyrics and the visuals as this will be the
clearest way of displaying my message.
oThe message I am trying to convey is based around the effects
of mental illness and how it can shatter your reality and
effectively ruin lives.
oThis video will definitely be a visual narrative and with tell a
story as it progresses.
SUMMARY

5 opportunities of your ideas

1. I have the opportunity to get across a very powerful
message about a very important subject.
2. I will be able to work closely with my crew and create
something wonderful.
3. I will be able to create an effective narrative that will
allow for a deep and meaningful story to be created.
4. I will finally be able to express my views on a subject
that is very dear to me.
5. I am able to use a realistic setting to show the effects of
something that is potentially life-destroying
SUMMARY

5 restrictions to your ideas

oThe setting has to be realistic as it is showing a real life issue,
therefore there isn't a lot of room for artistic freedom.
oThe only actors will be me and my family, thus the video might a
little unbelievable as none of us are real actors.
o The environments I require cannot be very bright or very exotic so
the video probably wont be all that aesthetically pleasing.
oThe video has a very specific target audience and most people wont
understand it without me telling them.
oFollowing on from the previous restriction, a lot of people may not
want to watch it as it will be very full on and violent showing how
this video only really applies to a particular niche in the music
community.
FINAL IDEA
ARTIST/TITLE/INFO
Name of track / name of artist
Remember Everything/Five Finger Death Punch
Brief biographical background
One of the most successful groove metal bands of the 2010s, Five
Finger Death Punch were formed in 2005 and feature Zoltan
Bathory, Darrell Roberts, Ivan Moody, Jeremy Spencer and Chris
Links to other artists
Kael.
N/a
Genre info
Five Finger Death Punch are a groove Metal Band which keeps all of
the essential values of heavy metal i.e. loud shouting, screaming
etc. but the difference is the fact that they have a softer rhythm and
the songs are easier to understand as well as interpret.
FINAL IDEA TRACK
SUMMARY
Summary/analysis of track [consider meaning, content, duration,
pace and style of the song]
Remember Everything is a fantastic song about the life of a man
and how he regrets his past as it tortures him throughout his
growth from a small child to the day he dies. The song is very
much based on flashbacks, for example for the majority of the
video you see the stages of this mans life in a white room as he
starts to scrawl on the wall, which inevitably becomes more
covered as the years progress and it will flashback to the hard
times in his life and areas he regrets, but also good and positive
areas such as his marriage. As a result of the song showing the
duration of a mans whole life it is quite long and almost hits the
five minute mark, this is also down to the fact that the song has
quite a slow pace, which leads on to the sorrowful style of the
song as the verses and chorus are quite short yet the lyrics are
sung very slowly to really hammer home the songs meaning.
FINAL IDEA YOUR IDEA
Your creative concept/video synopsis [describe your interpretation,
use of imagery or narrative, genre conventions, etc]
My idea follows the same basic method of the Remember
Everything video with it involving one central location surrounded
by a vast amount of flashbacks, however I will be the actor and I will
spend most of the video thrashing about and holding my head in my
hands as I think back to how my mental illness has helped destroy
my life and how it tortures my mind. The flashbacks will occur
frequently and will involve my family and maybe my friends. The
video will follow my story to the point where I Leave my house
wearing a rucksack, indicating I have abandoned those who love
me, before ending the song where I bow my head in defeat.
The real meaning behind this song is how mental illness can destroy
lives and how it feels living with one, I have taken a very grim and
painful look on this subject as that is my personal interpretation of
what it feels like living with my own mental illness.
TASK 2 Pre-production
Assessment
GUIDANCE:
PRE-PRODUCTION
ASSESSMENT
You need to assess the viability of your production and
investigate what is required to enable you to make
your music video
Much of this task is hypothetical, which means you will
need to investigate standard costings for such a
production and apply these to your planned production
considering which equipment you would need and
resources, etc
Resources to support this are in the Pre-production
assessment folder on Blackboard
Delete the questions on each slide and insert your
responses
GUIDANCE:
BUDGET TARGET
You have provisionally given an outline target of 2000
to make your music video
This target should include a 10% contingency [that
means your budget should allow for 200 pounds
within the budget so realistically you aim lower than
1800]
Your budget should account for everything, except your
own time and input
Consider more than one option to solve a requirement
you may be able to balance your budget later, there
will have to be a compromise somewhere
GUIDANCE:
TIME
You will need to plan a schedule for the pre-
production/production/post-production
Nominally you should work on 2 weeks pre-production,
1 week filming [2 college days Mon./Tues first week
after half term] and 2 weeks edit/post-production
Who is going to do what? How will you split the time?
When can you film? What is the availability of the
equipment/resources/locations/personnel?
What problems can you foresee? How will you
overcome them?
TITLE OF
PRODUCTION/PRODUCTI
ON OUTLINE
Summary of intended production
My final song choice is Remember everything by Five Finger Death Punch. My music video is going
to feature mostly shots of me, but flicking between memories of me and my family members and then
back to me as a way of drawing awareness to the effects of mental illness and what it can do to
people, thus it is going to be a visual narrative, focusing closely on the relationship between the lyrics
and the visuals.
Detail here what you are going to make and the intended outcome
I am going to make a music video for the song Remember Everything I am going to be specifically
focusing on the visuals as the lyrics need assistance in conveying the message I want, it will be very
dark and gritty as that is how I perceive the effects of my own mental condition.
Detailed breakdown of the music track chosen and your interpretation of it [remember the questions in
the workbook, e.g. pace/mood/tone/structure]
The track I have chosen is one of my personal favorites as it is relatively fast paced (in terms of heavy
metal) and has a very foreboding mood that makes you think. Its tone is rather low with the traditional
heavy metal screams and raised voices for the chorus etc. Finally in terms of my interpretation of the
track, to me it is a good way of describing the things that I want to say to my family which I have never
had the courage to say and how I have been changed by what happens inside my head, along with the
suffering and heartbreak that follows.
Specific outline your intended technical/equipment requirements
I will need a camera and tripod for my video, I need to make sure I use a zoom lens as the background
is not as important as me in this case as I want the audience to be focused on what is happening to me
and the people in the video.
LOCATIONS
You need to identify locations and plan a recce.
The underpass near York College One reason I have chosen this location is
because it perfectly epitomizes all of the qualities that I desire in terms of
environment for my video; Dark, Gritty and Worn-down, Also it is completely free.
My house I am going to be filming here as in m video there will be flicks between
the warm memories of family and home and the darkness and hate of reality and
regret, thus I will need my house to attain the shots of said memories, also I will
not need to pay for access to my own home.
What are the limitations and risks, eg distance, access, cost, weather? How will
you manage this?
In terms of the underpass there will be a limitation on what days I can actually go
there as well as times, as It will have to be a college day, thus Wednesday is
completely out of the question and I will also have to find time throughout the day
to actually go meaning that I have To go when I do not have lessons, meaning I
cannot go on Mondays other than lunches and after or before lessons for the other
days.
Also a further limitation is that I am relying on the weather to be clear and not
raining because should it be raining I will be unable to get the footage I desire.
EQUIPMENT - CAMERA
I will need roughly 3 days to film my music video
and the Canon 5D costs 88 per day, thus leading
to a final cost of 264, I have considered this
camera as it is very high quality as well as being
fantastic at capturing even the most minute of
details, resulting in a higher quality video overall.

https://www.hireacamera.com/en-gb/products/HAC0
0-03011-canon-eos-5d-mk-iv
/ The Canon C300 costs 110 a day, considering
that I need 3 days roughly to film that will incur a
330 cost overall. This camera would be a great
option for use in filming a music video as it has
been specifically tailored for use in film making,
meaning that I will be using it for its intended
purpose, therefore creating a higher quality piece
overall.
EQUIPMENT - OTHER
The Manfrotto Fluid Tripod is a relatively cheap
option in terms of equipment, at only 8 a day, the
maximum cost for 3 days will be only 24,
furthermore this tripod is incredibly lightweight and
will require minimum effort to transport around.

https://www.hireacamera.com/en-gb/products/HAC00-
00241-manfrotto-fluid-tripod
/
The Sony E18 costs 19 a day, thus creating an
overall cost of 57, the lens is known for its
incredible resolution when shooting, it will also allow
me to focus more on myself within the video,
forgetting the background and only really using it as
a way of complimenting the idea of the video.

-00611-sony-e18-105mm-f4-mid-range-power-zooms-l
FINAL CHOICE - CAMERA
I have decided to go with the Canon C300 over the Canon 5D
as although the 5D is cheaper and offers very high quality
footage, the C300 is quite literally built for the job as the
camera itself is specifically tailored to be used as a film-
making implement, and my thoughts are that if I can spare the
cost then why go for an inferior tool when I can get something
that is perfectly suited to what I want to do, and besides the
C300 still outputs a fantastic degree of quality, so my video
certainly wont be lacking in the quality section.
FACILITIES
Where will you edit your video? Do you need any other
specialist facilities?
There is an editing suite in London that costs 180 per
day and has all the specialist equipment used in the
editing of videos, as well as the corresponding
software. Considering that I will probably need to do
about 4 days worth of editing that will cost 720,
however will all the equipment and software in the
studio it will make editing so much easier.
http://www.digitalsnowball.com/video-edit-suite-hire-lo
ndon
/
Also I could use the college studio space as it is free,
and although it will lack most of the specialist
equipment it is within the college, thus there will be
PERSONNEL
CREW: What is you team? Who is in it? What are each team members
strengths/weaknesses? When are they available?
Elijah Strengths
- He is reliable and trustworthy
- He is free on the days I am going to be filming
- Me and him have both helped with a friends music video before so he knows what he is
doing.
Mark Strengths
- Mark is a special effects make-up artist and is very good at what he does, thus he will
be very useful when making my music video
- He is very reliable and very able to help at the times I have set
- He lives relatively close to me so he can help me with shots outside of college
Craig Strengths
- Craig is one of my best mates and has always been able to help when I need him
- He is versed in the ways of cameras and how they are used
He lives very close to me and can thus help out with shots outside college
PROPS/COSTUME/ETC
I will be the main actor in the video and will most likely
be wearing my regular clothing, thus there will be no
need to pay for any costumes. Any props I use will be
within my own home and will also not cost anything.
The reason I will not really be using any props is
because I am filming in a dark, secluded environment
as a way to display the loneliness created by mental
illness

Local equipment hire companies have costs for camera, lenses
and kit [tripod, dolly, steadicam rigs, etc]
Travel by vehicle can be nominally charged at 40p per mile so
you need to know how far you location is from where you are!
CODES OF PRACTICE
AND REGULATIONS
Do you need clearance for copyrighted materials? [you will need to contact Mechanical Copyright
Protection Society-Performing Rights Society Alliance (MCPS-PRS)]
I have chosen the song Remember Everything by Five Finger Death Punch. I will have no issues with
copyright as I am not going to be using the song for commercial purposes and this allows me to use the
song without need to pay for any rights to the song.
Do you have performers external to your group performing? They will need release forms that declare you
can use footage of them in the production. This needs to be planned for.
I do not need any actors that are outside my group so I do not need any release forms to say that I can use
the footage of them. I will most likely be the only actor, and thus will not need to sign any forms for myself.
Do you have any actors under the age of 18? You will need parental permission forms.
I will be the only actor, and although I am 17 I do not need to get parental permission forms for myself,
everyone else I am working with is 18 and above anyway so there are no problems there.
Are you filming on private property? You will need written consent PRIOR to filming. Plan in advance. This
needs to be considered.
I will not be filming on any form of private property, as I will be filming in my own home and the underpass
near college, this area is public and therefore I will not cause any issues by filming there.
Consider where you may need specific risk assessments and health and safety documentation
I may need to consider the area where I am filming, i.e. the underpass as there is broken glass down as
well as plastics and metals that may cause harm, therefore I will have to watch out for those whilst we are
working down there. Furthermore the area we will be shooting in is concrete and thus any falls may cause
injury. Long story short we will definitely need to give the area a bit of a clean beforehand and bring a first
aid kit as a precaution.

Explain what your overall budget is [if applicable] and how this is to be met
I have an overall budget of 2000 and this is to cover all of the costs of production, including a contingency in
case anything goes wrong.
How will you deal with any extra costs? Contingency fund? What percentage of your budget should this be? [hint:
add 10% on to the final cost, this should cover it!]
I am going to leave 20% of my fund as a contingency, which is 400. the reason I have decided to put 400 aside
is because should I run into the issue of having to film an extra day then I can afford all the daily costs with my
contingency fund. To pay for an extra day it will cost 317 for all of the equipment so a 400 contingency fund
will be able to cover this perfectly.
Do you foresee any problems? How will you manage this/over come them?
One problem I could come across would be the weather, thus in the event of rain or other forms of inappropriate
weather I will need to have other plans for filming so that I do not waste days, as this would incur further costs.
Another problem could be my crew not turning up or being unable to attend, meaning I may not be able to film
certain things, I can overcome this by showing them my filming schedule in advance and having them let me
know early whether they are unable to attend so I can possibly requisition any extra help I require.

BUDGET EXPLANATION
AND JUSTIFICATION
I have chosen a more expensive budget I comparison
to the alternative I could have used because although I
would not have had to spend nearly as much using the
college studio I thought that if I can afford it why not
go the extra mile and increase the quality of my final
piece, plus by choosing the editing suite I will have a
much easier time when editing my video. Furthermore I
could have chosen the Canon 5D over the C300 if I
desired a cheaper option, however I simply couldnt
pass up the fact that the C300 was made with the idea
of film-making making it completely suited to what it is
I am trying to accomplish. As a final note the reason I
went for the items within my current budget is because
although they are more expensive I should be able to
produce a much higher quality video as a result.
TASK 3.1 Visual Planning
PRE-PRODUCTION:
VISUAL PLANNING
This section is concerned with the visual planning of your
music video
You should use this section to develop the sequencing or
your video, establish the relationship between the visuals
and the track itself and create a structure for you to
follow when filming
It is important that you pre-visualise the video before
you make it; it will make filming and production a more
streamlined process
The following tasks are part of your visual planning
Pre-visualisation and concept boards
Storyboarding
Shot list
PRE-
VISUALISATION/CONCEP
T BOARDS
Tool for exploring the direction and visuals
Provides inspiration and information for the look & feel
Presents key moments in your video
A means to sketch/plan ideas
Information on colour/lighting
Defining the mise-en-scene
Include as much here as you like, but keep it relevant to the
production, the following slides have been left blank for you to
approach in your own way, add more as you need to
Extension suggestion: edit a short sequence of clips that have
inspired or influenced your video [similar to this:
http://io9.com/5941145/this-directors-video-pitch-for-hunger-
games-might-be-better-than-the-real-movie]
RIP-O-MATIC
You should also construct a 15-20 second Rip-o-matic
test reel using existing footage to convey the type of
video you want to make
STRUCTURAL
BREAKDOWN
Breakdown your track into it basic sections [e.g. intro,
verse, chorus, verse, etc] and apply broad visual ideas
to each section
You can use this as the master template for your
production, then add more shots to each section when
you develop your full visual plan
You should create a slide showing all the sections of
the song, then add a slide for each section with
timings, lyrics, what happens and details on specific
shots

You could storyboard and shot list each section as you

go, to break up the process.
STRUCTURAL
BREAKDOWN - INTRO
The song Remember Everything begins with the tune
playing from 0-0.26 in the song and then at 0.26 the
first verse begins, so I can use the intro tune to sort-of
set the scene, show the actor(me) and then prepare for
the first verse to start.
I think this might be a good idea as then the audience
is aware of the environment and who the main focal
point is before the actual song commences.
STRUCTURAL
BREAKDOWN FIRST
VERSE
Oh, dear mother, I love you
I'm sorry, I wasn't good enough
Dear father, forgive me
'Cause in your eyes, I just never
added up
In my heart I know I failed you
But you left me here alone
Above is the beginning verse for the song, it begins at 0.26 and
ends at 1.00, this will most likely involve a lot of flicks from the
warmer, more family-based shots to the darker shots of me looking
particularly miserable in the underpass, and then building up to the
first chorus.
STRUCTURAL
BREAKDOWN FIRST
CHORUS
If I could hold back the rain
Would you numb the pain
'Cause I remember everything
If I could help you forget
Would you take my regrets
'Cause I remember everything

This is the first part of the song where the chorus is sung, it starts at
1.00 and ends at 1.28 at this point I will be thrashing about and holding
my head in my hands, probably kicking a few walls and hitting my fists
on the ground as to represent extreme stress, regret and anger, this will
most likely be shown in my face as well and most of this scene will
involve me with my mouth posed as though I am screaming. It will then
tone down slightly in preparation for the second verse.
STRUCTURAL
BREAKDOWN SECOND
VERSE
Oh, dear brother, just don't hate me
For never standing by you or being by
your side
Dear sister, please don't blame me
I only did what I thought was truly
right
It's a long and lonely road
When
This isyou
the know you
second walkofalone
verse the song and I starts at 1.28 and ends at 2.06,
with this verse there will most likely be more flicks between family life and
grim reality, with particular emphasis on my brother and my dog over a
sister as I do not have one, I will then prepare to do something similar to
what I did for the first chorus with he second one.
STRUCTURAL
BREAKDOWN SECOND
CHORUS
The second chorus is, unsurprisingly the same as the
other one and will involve similar behavior from me as
in the first one, however towards the end of the second
chorus I will begin to start moving along a path, picking
up speed as I go till I am running along this path this
is in preparation for the the third verse.
The chorus begins at 2.06 and ends at 2.30
STRUCTURAL
BREAKDOWN THIRD
VERSE
I feel like running away
I'm still so far from home
You say that I'll never change
But what the fuck do you know
I'll burn it all to the ground before I let
you run
Please forgive me, I can't forgive you
now
The third verse
I remember starts at 2.30 and ends at 3.00, what is different about this
everything
verse to the others is that there is no pause between it and the chorus as
the second chorus blends seamlessly into the third verse, and thus I will be
continuing what I started to do towards the end of the second chorus and
run down a path until this verse comes to an end, at which point I will
collapse onto my knees and hold my head in my hands and act very
distraught/exhausted.
STRUCTURAL
BREAKDOWN THIRD
CHORUS
The third chorus begins at 3.30 and ends at 3.53 and
for the most part of it I will be thrashing about and
hitting my fists against the floor as I am still knelt
down, I will then slightly calm down and begin to look
forlornly into the distance in preparation for the final
verse.
STRUCTURAL
BREAKDOWN FINAL
VERSE
It all went by so fast
I still can't change the past
I always will remember everything
If we could start again
Would that change the end
We remember everything
Everything

The Final Verse begins at 3.53 and ends at 4.31. As I mentioned before I
will be looking into the distance at 3.53 and then the video will flick to a
scene where I am wearing a rucksack and walking out of my house and
away from my home, it will then flick back to me staring into the distance
and slowly fade out once I bow my head in what is to represent defeat.
STORYBOARDING
Your storyboard should bring your idea to life
Provide an idea of the sequencing of you video
Provides a basis for production
Suggested online storyboard creators are:

http://www.storyjumper.com [allows you to insert your own images]

Alternatively, hand draw or photograph your storyboard and

scan or copy to insert it onto your slides
There are lots of tips collected together on Blackboard!
SHOT LIST
Your shot list should contain the sequential breakdown
of what you need to shoot for your video
It should work in partnership with your storyboard
It will be your working document when you film
It should contain the shot number, scene number, shot
description, framing and action you will see
It should also have information on performers in the
scene and other props, etc
Shot list template is on Blackboard in the pre-
production folder.
TASK 3.2 Organisational
Planning
PRODUCTION GROUP
INFO
Include names, contact info, and defined roles at
difference stages of production, using a table is
suggested
Elijah:
Contact number: 07510 822482
Role: Cameraman for the entire production
Craig:
Contact Number: 07710 260113
Role: Assistant Cameraman for the entire Production
LOCATION
INFORMATION
Information and images of your location[s] for filming
You should have address details, clearance/premissions for filming,
recce photos and floorplans [including camera, equipment and
cast/crew layouts]
Where possible, have a plan B fallback location option
Assess each location for any issues and suggest solutions

My House:
Address: 3 Holly-Tree Court, Carlton, Goole, DN14 9RJ
Images: not really needed as this is my own house
Issues/solutions: There should be no issues with this location as it is
my home and I will therefore not need any permissions or really
anything of that description.
LOCATIONS
Underpass:
Address: N/a (Cant Really find one as this is literally just a public
footpath near college)
Problems/Solutions: In terms of problems there is the issue of this
being a public footpath, which means I dont need any sort of
permission, however this means that when I am filming I will have
to check for pedestrians before I start, this could result in many
retakes as I need me and only me in the shots.
Plan B: Hollyrood Farm (My farm)
Address: Hollyrood Farm, Balne
Problems/Solutions: there wont really be any problems with this
location as the farm belongs to my family and is only really in
consideration as a plan B should I be unable to use the
underpass.
RISK ASSESSMENT
Risk Assess each separate filming location using the
table in the camera H&S PP on Bb as a staring point
Completing a generic filming assessment would be a
start, then you can add specialist/site specific risks as
you progress your production
Remember, a Risk Assessment is an ongoing
document, you should evaluate if anything changes in
production and when you put control measures in
place
You should add the table to each call sheet for each
location
RISK ASSESSMENT
Hazards Person or equipment Control measure
at risk taken
Broken Glass and other potentially Me and the crew Make sure we sweep the area
dangerous debris in the underpass before we use it and also wear
strong footwear e.g. Thick boots

someone who is not in the shot
keeping an eye on pedestrians and
moving the equipment etc. if
necessary.
Slippery Surfaces at the farm Me and the Crew Wear Boots that are waterproof
(Should the location be needed) and tough as well as wipe any
surfaces clean before use.
