DEFINITION:
A group of transformations
of the set A is a non-empty
set S of transformations of
the set A onto itself that is
close under products and
inverses. If f and g are in S,
then fg and f -1 are also in S.

Definition : A plane motion is direct
motion if it is the product of an even
number of reflection. It is an
opposite motion if it is the product of
odd number of reflection.

i.Closure property

By theorem 2.5 ( if a transformation is a


plane motion, then it is the product of
three or fewer reflection). A reflection is
a product of three reflections, a
translation and rotation are product of
two reflections and glide reflection is a
product of three reflections. Now, by
definition a reflection is opposite
motion, translation and rotation are
direct motion and glide reflection is
opposite motion.
