DESCRIPTION

The UAV is an acronym for Unmanned Aerial Vehicle, which is an aircraft with no
pilot on board. UAVs can be remote controlled aircraft (e.g. flown by a pilot at a
ground control station) or can fly autonomously based on pre-programmed flight
plans or more complex dynamic automation systems. UAVs are originated mostly
in military applications, but now their use is expanding in commercial, scientific,
recreational, agricultural, and other applications.

In our project, we are going to focus on small UAV used by common people for
recreation. This UAV is mainly used for video recording and photo taking. The
operators can use it to record the happiest moment in their life and view the best
scenery from different angles.

CAPABILITIES

Real-time aerial footage


The UAV allows operators to see what the camera sees at real-time.
Automatic Obstacle Avoidance
The UAV is constantly scanning forward and measures the distance between itself and obstacles
through sensors to create a 3D map which tells it exactly where obstacles are. Then UAVs can make its
way without bumping or scraping into anything in its path.
Precision Hover and Landing
The UAV retains its altitude and position by automatic adjustments according to the altitude
information from ultrasonic sensors and position data from GPS. Furthermore, the UAV is able to land
exactly where it took off according to the recorded coordinate from GPS when taking off.
Automatic Tracking
The UAV is able to follow behind or in front of a specified object.
Auto Return
The UAV is able to monitor itself status in real time such as the connection of remote controller and the
capacity of battery. When losing connection with the controller or the battery is about to run out, the
UAV will fly back and land where it took off.

Flight Data Record


The UAV is able to record many different important parameters of the flight such as flight routes,
duration, distance, location, altitude, airspeed, heading, and UAV attitude.This recorded
information can be used for future reference or diagnose faults.
Dual IMUs and compasses
The Inertial Measurement Unit and the compass are the most important but vulnerable part of
flight control system. So redundant IMUs and compass are necessary to keep flight reliable.
Adjustable control stick sensitivity
The UAV is able to maneuver precisely indoors and outdoors by choosing different levels of control
stick sensitivity.

CONSTRAINS

The UAV cannot fly in severe weather conditions including high wind, snow,
rain and fog.
The UAV cannot fly in environment whose temperature is lower than -10 or
higher than 40.
The UAV cannot fly in areas with high levels of electromagnetism.
The UAV cannot fly in no-fly zones required by regulations from government
and regulatory agencies, such as airports and restricted areas.
The UAV cannot fly at areas whose distance between remote controller is
further than 5km.
