DEFINITION
Bipolar disorder is a serious brain illness. It is
also called manic-depressive illness, namely
disturbance in brain function that causes
unusual changes in the atmosphere and the
feeling and thinking processes.
Depressive episodes of bipolar affective
disorder is a mood disorder.
Symtoms of bipolar
depression
Mood changes
No interest in or pleasure from activities once enjoyed
Major changes in appetive or body weight
Insomnia or sleeping too much
Feelings of restlessness
Fatigue, exhaustion, or lack of energy
Feelings of worthlessness or excessive guilt
Difficulty concentrating or making decisions
Thoughts of death or suicide

Behavioral changes
feeling tired or "slowed down"
having problems concentrating, remembering, and making
decisions
changing eating, sleeping, or other habits
thinking of death or suicide, or attempting suicide
