DECLINE OF INDIAN FOOTBALL

REASONS:

Reluctance of Bengali Footballers to leave the country

Lack of knowledge about latest trends in international soccer

Misplaced bravado has cost Indian soccer dear in the long run

Paucity of the infrastructure

Increase in cricket affinity

Fund crunch and general lack of football coverage in the sports channels

OPPORTUNITIES IN INDIAN FOOTBALL

If foreign entities come and invest in India with the aim of making profits
quickly, it may not work. But if they invest with a long-term vision to develop
Indian football, they will reap rewards. Investing in Indian football is investing
in the future. Investing in Indian football now is banking on future value at a
discounted price, given the fact that the future for the sport is bright in the
country. ---- Kushal Das, General Secretary, The All India Football
Federation
