1. Introduction

XJTU library :
Building space: 40,000 square meters
Collection: near 4 million volumes and items
more than 5000 current print journals and periodicals
over 27000 kinds of e-journals
more than 100 kinds of e-resources
With the development of network technology and electronic
resources, great changes has taken place in XJTU library, especially
in the Automation, Networking ,and Digitization.

Integrated library automation system

The INNOPAC integrated automaton system was installed in the Library
in1998. With this system, the acquisition, cataloging, series management,
circulation and OPAC of the library can be operated automatically. The
Library's INNOPAC system is also connected to the campus-wide
network, CERNET and Internet, and therefore users outside the university
can access to the library resources through the Internet.

Journals Navigation System

provides search and browse function.

Journal list can be ordered by journal name, database name, or
subject.
Especially navigation system includes a subscription of the latest
annual edition print journals and periodicals, free and non-free
electronic and periodicals.
In the system, each title has a directly link , for the print version ,from
which users can reach to OPAC records to check its collection, for eversion, from which users can access to full text.

the Remote Dissertations Submit System

The system allows students to submit their dissertations
to librarys server in required format through network, and then
proofreads them automatically; decline those which are not in
accordance with the required format. The Dissertations which
meet the requirements are submitted into the library database
right away, and can be immediately searched and browsed.

Access Control System

With the establishment of Access Control System,
using the laser scanner librarian can record the reads
Barcode while readers are entering the library. In this way,
librarians can count readers number, record readers identity
and this makes it easy for statistics management, reduces
the librarians on duty for reading room and improves the
working efficiency and management level.

2.2 Digitization
With the development of digital technologies and the issue of the
corresponding domestic standards, XJTU Library set up a special digitization
department. The department has eight high-quality scanners, 12 PCs, digital
cameras and other equipments; and works on the digitization of special
collections.
So far, full texts of 11,000 dissertations (including Masters and Ph.D.), 7,600
volumes of books published before 1949 and 2,500 copies of rare books have
digitized . All of those digital resources can be searched and browsed on
library homepage on campus

Network Computer Lab
in 1998, established a 100M fast fiber Ethernet
in 2000, upgraded to Gigabit Ethernet and connected with campus
network;
in 2004,the space of central computer room was extended,
In additional, computer room has equipped with Power Supply
System, Air-conditioning systems and Standard Rack.

SAN Storage
In 2001, purchased SCSI RAID system, equipped with 23 pieces of 73G
SCSI hard disk, with a total capacity of 1.6T.
Since 2004, set up SAN Storage system,IBM FastT900 ,with two 16-port
SAN switches, one Midrange Disk System, four Storage Expansions, and one
LTO Ultrium Scalable Tape Library.
Used for storing and backup our own digital resource, like XJTU dissertation
and theses and such databases

3. Prospect
To summarize the development of construction in
automation, network and digitization of XJTU library, the
future library is a digital and virtual library, based on
developed networks, numerous servers and huge
storage systems, with immense digital resources as
collections. Advanced guide systems will lead readers to
roam in the network of the digital library and enjoy the
immense digital recourses conveniently and quickly.
