GAME, CONCEPT AND CHARACTERISTICS

CONCEPT
A game is an activity, usually undertaken
for enjoyment and sometimes used as an
educational tool.
Games are a universal part of human
experience and they are present in all
cultures.

CHARACTERISTICS OF
GAMES

It is fun and pleasant.

Game is a recreational activity and

therefore its aim is to generate
pleasure and satisfaction to the
people involved.

It

implies activity.

Moving around, thinking, exploring

and communicating with the other
players. The player also has to be
psychologically active

It has to be spontaneous and

totally voluntary.
You play if you want to, and there is no
need to prepare or to plan the activity.
The game has to be chosen freely and
never be imposed (if so, it will lose its
identity).

What is really important and

characteristic of games is the
process/course, not the final result.

The game is carried out in a fictitious

reality.
When they are playing, children can be
whoever they want to and they can
exceed the limits of their reality and
immerse themselves in an imaginary
world.

It happens in all cultures, where there are many
popular games in which children dont need any

explanation about how to play.

All the games have a space and

temporal constraint.

Depending on the interest of the player

a specific time will be set, whereas the
space will be determined by the area
where the game is carried out.
