INTRODUCTION
A cycle track, separated bike lane or protected bike.
It is an exclusive bikeway that has elements of a separated path
and on-road bike lane.
Size is power on India's roads and in the caste system of transport,
cyclists rank just a notch above pedestrians and stray animals.
Buses and SUVs rarely, if ever, give way to lesser
By and large, cycling is not a lifestyle choice for the middle
classes. Rather, it is the default mode of transport for those who
cannot afford anything else.

STARTED BY
Lucknow cycle track was started by Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav.
He was inspired by Netherlands cycle track during his visit to Netherlands.
He send a team to Netherlands to study the Amsterdam cycle track.

According to him -

i. To meet the aim of increasing cycle traffic, infrastructure facilities would be


developed.
ii. It will encourage more and more people to use cycle as a mode of commuting.
iii. Use of cycle would not only ensure that clean environment is provided but also
health will improve.

Statistical data regarding cycle track


Construction of 28 cycle track
Money allotted 27.49 crore Rs.
0.730 km cycle track at kalidas marg will cost 148.33.
Around 40 lakh Rs is the cost of 1 km of cycle track but may vary.
Construction of Iconic Cycle Bridges at
1. CDRI to Lucknow University.
2. Along Lakshman Leela Ground
3. Janeshwar Mishra Park
Will cost 450 crore Rs. which will be built in 2017.

SOCIETY AND ITS PERCEPTION


Many people perceive cycle as poor mans vehicle. So they avoid cycling
due to prestige issues.
Perception of time saving
Growing culture of laziness.
Many people perceive that cycling on Indian roads is not safe
Affordability of motor bikes due to increasing disposable incomes and easy
availability of financing facilities.

Keeps cyclists off sidewalks.

Cutting down of trees for construction of cycle track.

Poor or lacking facilities.
Cycle track being used by motorcyclist.
Monetary expense on government.

According to TIMES OF INDIA
A recent survey of the district administration found that though eight cycle
tracks are ready
Barely 20-30% cyclists use them.
A reality check by TOI shows that most of the cycle tracks, like on Kursi
Road and Jankipuram have been encroached by shopkeepers and vendors
Hazratganj cycle track has turned into an illegal parking lot.
The tracks in VIP areas like Vikramaditya Marg, Kalidas Marg and Golf
Club have been occupied by squatters.

Vegetables and fruits vendors are doing brisk business on the half a
kilometre on Kursi Road.
The cycle track from GPO towards Raj Bhawan has turned into an
illegal parking slot.

SUGGESTION
Regular maintenance and cleanliness of tracks.
Educate people of the benefit of cycle track.
Provide incentive to cycle track user.
Proper lightning on the tracks.
Imposing fine on law breakers.
Tackling the heat by planting trees on the side of track.
Making cycle tracks where there are school.
Lead by example, make ministers use cycle track.

SUGGESTION
Educate the educated ones that cycle it is not a poor's man ride.
Organize cycle rallies regularly in cities. Get media coverage of them through
participation of celebrities like cricketers, movie stars and ministers etc
Cycling should be seen as a symbol of youth and energy rather than poverty.
Posters in Notice boards of companies and hoardings near traffic signals or areas
where there is regular traffic saying how cycling could have prevented their
waiting at that signal for so much time
Distribute T-shirts with slogans like Cycle For Health to promote cycling
among corporate employees and college pass outs.
Allow subsidy on cycle or TAX EXEMPTION.
Link the metro stations and cycle track and provide parking facility.

CONCLUSION
It is a good initiative taken by the Chief minister for ecofriendly mode of
transport.
This initiative will help student who ride cycle to go to there school.
It has created a positive image in the eyes of world as it was well covered
in media.
A step toward smart city and greener INDIA.
