This is a Business course that applies important

main stream managerial finance skills. We do not

seek to produce finance wonks but competent
practicing entrepreneurs.
This is not a mechanical course. You will have to

think and draw managerial conclusions. It is

not a mindless number crunching exercise, where
numbers are blindly fed into formulas.
This is also a Quantitative course as is most

everything in business. In this course you will

make decisions to learn how to use your money
better.

Course Success Tips

First be sure you have your pre-requisites. You cannot

take this class without FIN 3403.

On a weekly basis
STEP #1 - Read the Weekly Course Content page. This

page sets the road-map for the weeks materials and may
also include guides

STEP #2 - Do the Readings. Every class has text, and

frequently supplemental, readings. They are vital to

developing an understanding of the topics. Dont be
surprised if you dont get it on the first reading. They are
not novels. The rule of thumb is that two readings may be
needed.

STEP #3 - Do the Lecture Presentations (PowerPoints). They

highlight & clarify the important and difficult aspects of the

weeks topics. DO NOT try to rely ONLY on these
PowerPoints Presentations. It will not work.

Short Cuts to Avoid
Jumping right into the homework then looking back to

learn whats needed. Do this and you will spend

enormous amounts of time, will get very frustrated, and will
have weak learning results

Relying only on the PowerPoints and avoiding or skimming

over the Readings. At best you will get a very superficial

understanding, will get very frustrated, and will have weak
Test performance.
