2016 Highlights
First Quarter

Received 2015 Affiliate Award of Excellence at


Keep America Beautiful National Conference in Orlando

Conducted a successful Clean Team fundraising campaign that contributed


significant income to budget, as well as serving as a community awareness
campaign

Held annual Green & Growing free gardening seminars


Invasive Plants, Seed Starting 101, Fairy Gardens

Environmental Education in Kingsport City Schools


Environmental reading in elementary schools
Middle school community service awards
Environmental cleanups at 7 KCS schools
Environmental Education on the Go mobile classroom at 3 KCS
elementary schools

Keep TN Beautiful and TDOT requested KKBs assistance establishing


a Keep America Beautiful affiliate in Carter county. KKB director
presented to Carter county commissioners, Elizabethton BMA,
Carter county sheriff's department and concerned citizen. Continues
to assist as needed.

2016 Highlights
Second Quarter

Launched the first annual Clean Sweep Kingsport event April 18th
333 volunteers worked 806 hours=$18,594 worth of volunteer
labor to collect over 15 tons of litter, trash and brush from the
Riverview, Borden Mill Village, South Central, Highland and
Lynn Garden neighborhoods, as well as along the entire 8+ miles
of the Greenbelt (including Reedy Creek and the Holston River)
and Downtown Kingsport.

Held the most successful Saturday in the Gardens tour to date.


Five gardens featured
Highlighted native plants, garden design and beautification ideas.
The tour raised significant funds to support KKBs programs.

2016 Highlights
Second Quarter

KKB received a $2,500 Cigarette Litter Prevention Program grant


from Keep America Beautiful
Purchased 36 cigarette litter receptacles
Partnered with DKA to survey downtown to determine areas
with significant cigarette litter issues
Purchased and placed educational signage
Partnered with DKA to arrange for weekly maintenance of the
receptacles by Hay House residents
Grant required follow-up litter counts showed a 63% reduction
in cigarette litter in downtown Kingsport in a 2 month period

2016 Highlights
Third Quarter
The 31st annual Trash Barrel Paint-In held on July 12th
300 barrels painted
Over 500 in attendance.
Domtar joined as the official Trash Barrel Paint-In sponsor
Over 500 barrels are provided to the City of Kingsport for use
as special events trash receptacles, at a value of
approximately $28,000.

75 volunteers working at 10 Fun Fest events contributed over 1,700 hours to


Trashbusters, helping to collect 9.7 tons of litter

2016 Highlights
Third Quarter
Conservation Camp 2016 was held September 6th - 8th
768 students from 11 schools and 3 school districts attended
13 outdoor learning stations featuring forestry conservation, wildlife
habitats, water conservation, local geology, area industries and their role in
environmental conservation.
Moved to enhanced location at Eastmans Bays Mountain Recreation Area

Fourth Quarter
Hosted Keep Tennessee Beautifuls Affiliate Directors Conference and Retreat
in Kingsport at MeadowView Conference Resort and Convention Center
Over 50 attendees and 90 room nights at Meadowview with an economic
impact of over $30,000.00
KKB was selected as the non-profit partner for the first annual Halloween
Bash in Kingsport, with KKB receiving a portion of the proceeds to support
its programs.
KKB director asked to serve as a judge for the Keep America Beautiful
2016 National Awards program

2016 Highlights
Fourth Quarter
Launched the inaugural Native Tree and Shrub Sale December 15th
Three native trees and a native shrub offered for pre-purchase
with deliver in early March 2017
Goal of selling and reintroducing a minimum of 100 native
trees and shrubs into the Kingsport area in celebration of
Kingsports Centennial

2016 Awards
Keep America Beautiful has recently announced
that Keep Kingsport Beautiful has been awarded
the following:
2016 Affiliate Award of Excellence KKB is the only Tennessee
affiliate to receive this award.
2016 Affiliate Sustained Excellence Award KKB is one of only 6
recipients of this award, out of over 600 Keep America Beautiful affiliates.
The awards will be presented at the KAB National Conference in
Washington, D.C. on January 24, 2017.
