What are KPIs?

The Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) are used to

measure the performance of the network in a consistent
and unified manner.

KPIs form the basis of the dashboards for operational as

well as management usage. The general principle for
maintaining KPI is to ensure the network performance is
always within the designed KPI.

Switch Traffic

This KPI is aimed at calculating overall traffic catered by

the Network.

This measurement entity measures traffic in the time

interval from when a call is established until the call is
released in a measurement period, for example, from the
time when the MSC receives an IAM message until it
receives an REL message. The result measured in this
time interval is converted into a value in Erl.

VLR Subscriber

This measurement unit is aimed at collecting statistics on

various types of subscribers in the VLR based on the
current states of subscribers, subscription information
etc. It helps realize real-time measurement of the number
of subscribers in the VLR and provide subscriber-specific
metrics for evaluating the performance indices of the
VMSC.

When the subscriber data changes, values of

measurement entities in this measurement unit are
updated to accurately reflect the number of each type of
subscribers of the MSC at a specific time.

BHCA stands for Busy hour Call Attempts. It refers to the

total call attempts including Outgoing, Incoming and
transit during Network busy hour.

BHCA trend analysis gives a fare Idea of Network

Loading.

BHCA trend is important input for Operational as well as

Management review and Network Expansion planning.

TSR / SCR

Technical Success Rate or Successful call Rate gives us

the ratio or % of calls which MSC is able to process & is
able to put through the Calls requested.

TSR / SCR does not include the call failure happening due
to Peer end failure & Subscriber behaviour like
Subscriber switch off, Not reachable, Peer end
congestion etc.

ASR

Answer to Seizure ratio as the name suggest measures

the ratio of Number of Answered calls to total number of
call attempt in the Network.

Network level ASR measurement is done on A-Interface.

The most common and major reason of degraded ASR is

congestion in the Network at different Interface like Peer
end, POI, Inter MSC and A-Interface.

Processor Load
This measurement unit is aimed at collecting statistics
about the CPU usage of each module. The measurement
data provides a reference for the network management
and maintenance.
This measurement unit consists of measurement entities
like Average Seizure Rate, Congestion Times, Congestion
Duration, Overload Times, Overload Duration, Peak
Seizure rate, Peak Seizure Time, Peak Seizure Duration.
CPU Load is an Important input for Operation &
Management team for Network planning activity.

Location Update Success Rate

This measurement unit is aimed at collecting statistics on
normal location update, periodic location update, IMSI
attach and IMSI detach location update.
It provides reference for Engineers to analyze the cause
of location update failure.
Using this report statistics we can identify the Location
update success rate of Intra VLR, Inter VLR, Periodic
Location Update request, Also this report help us to
analyze the reason of Location update failure.

Paging Success Rate

This measurement unit is aimed at collecting statistics on
the paging procedure, including the number of paging
requests initiated over interfaces (A interface, Iu interface,
and Gs interface) and the number of paging responses.
The Paging Success Rate can be optimize by adjusting
the paging strategy through the following parameters:
