Observation
Experiments, risk-taking, autonomy, and

flexibility.
Translation : TRY, TEST, INNOVATE,
CREATE.
The different teaching-learning theories
will help the student teacher make heads
and tails of what she observes.

Classroom teaching begins and end with

the getting to know the students

weaknesses and strengths with the end in
view of minimizing barriers to learning.
Learning experiences are planned to
eliminate all barriers to learning. Barriers
come in form of theories or
misconception.
Watch how your cooperating teacher
dissolves these barriers.

Off-Campus Tour
Dja vu! There is that feeling that
youre been here, although not quite.
Youre here as a student, but not quite. As
you walk around, you are going to look at
everything and see it through the eyes of
the teacher. What a difference that makes!

Pre-Teaching Experiences
There are two activities that you
will undergo before actual classroom
teaching. These are the orientation
activities and classroom activities.

Observation of Classes
These are the first few days wherein
you will gain your first experiences in
student teaching in cooperating school
where you are assigned. Here, you will be
oriented to various activities like actual
classroom observations and gradual
participation in some activities directed
by the cooperating teacher.

You will be oriented to your cooperating

school, its objectives, policies,
and
philosophy.
after the first two weeks of orientation,
you will be formally observing and
participating in the classroom, you have
the systematic and manifest a positive
outlook in your observations to get the
most from these experiences. You will not
act as a critic but as a student teacher who
wants to learn and improve oneself.

Observing the Students

Make

observation of students for

guidance in actual teaching;
The type and quality of human
relationship between the teacher and the
students contribute greatly to effective
teaching.

While most observation activities take

place in the classroom, the student teacher

should observe the students on other
places such as the playground, the library
and the mess hall.
Effective observation follows a regular
schedule;

Classroom Management
Observe the behavior of the students at
work and a play. Prepare notes regarding
the following:
1. Physical arrangement of the Classroom
This includes the seating arrangements,
location of the instructional materials,
use of bulletin boards, use of learning
areas, kinds of facilities, and ways to

Make room appealing and stimulating.

2. Routing Activities
Observe the children at the beginning of the
day, upon arrival, their attendance, in the
sharing time, in the distribution and
collection of materials, at dismissal, and
in all other student activities and
responsibilities.

3. Transitions
Observe them at the start of the first
lesson, from one lesson to another, from
an active experiences to a quiet one, from
a large to small group interaction, from
classroom to recess and back to the
classroom, to and from special subjects
such as physical education, and
movements of groups within a class.

Learning to Teach
Would be teachers tend to lack
confidence in their teaching skills. On the
top of that, they worry about being liked
by the peers and students and making
good impression. Life is lived in terms of
surviving from day to day which could
extend to weeks. Major problems include
applying technical skills in ordinary

classroom situations. Take heart! A

journey of a thousand miles begins with a
single step. A beginning teacher can
learn from experienced ones and patience
can save them from unnecessary growing
pains.
Key:
A-Always
B-Often
C-Occasionally
D-Seldom E-Never

Participation
One of the first tasks in participation is
to know the children. Preparation of seat
plans will help to remember their names.
As a student teacher, you will participate
in management of routine matters, assist
in directing and guiding students
activities, and help in co-teaching
situations until confidence and desires to
teach are developed.

These experiences will made complete by

helping your cooperating teacher
accomplish the different class forms and
records such as the School Register (Form
1). Teachers Class Records, DTR(Form
40), Form 137, etc.

Lesson Planning
Lesson planning can be thought of as
similar to drawing a road map. A teacher
plans in order to provide him with a
sequence of steps to follow as he teaches
the material. There really is no best way
to organize a lesson. An effective lesson
plan results from through research.
Practice makes lesson planning almost

as natural as breathing to a teacher.

Actual Teaching
This is the time to prepare for factual
teaching and for other activities with the
children. Your lesson plan serves as guide
to carry out the objectives to be achieved.

Lesson Plan
A teachers success depends upon the
effective planning and preparation off his
subject. He must have mastered the
subject matter because he cannot teach
knowledge and skills that he doesnt
possess. You may be required by your
cooperating teacher to write three types of
daily lesson plan, the detailed lesson plan,

semi-detailed lesson plan, and the brief

lesson plan.
In detailed lesson plan, both teachers
and students activities are presented.
questions and expected answers are
written. You will be asked to prepare the
detailed lesson plan for the first few
weeks but later may be allowed to write a
semi-detailed ones. A semi-detailed lesson
plan has only the teachers activity under
Procedure.

You will also be allowed to write a brief

lesson plan, especially when you have to
teach successive subjects or when you are
to have a straight teaching. This lesson
plan shows only the main parts without
the questions you are going to ask in the
discussion.

Education
Your First Teaching Day
Its you first teaching day. A real
school, a real class, real students. Lets do
your checklist.
Do your lesson plan at heart
Are your teaching devices synchronized
with he steps you have mapped out?
Is your plan updated?

Are you wits with you? Keep your sense

of humor?
Look at you. Are you well groomed?
Full in your stomach?
Remember: Step by step
In your daily teaching you will be
observed by your cooperating teacher. A
sample observation form follows :
