INTRODUCTION
Since our inception in 1994, Baynunah Laboratories has provided geotechnical

engineering services for numerous projects, large and small, for a spectrum of clients
and projects sites that range from local homeowners to governmental agencies and
large corporations with interests extending across the country and internationally.
As geotechnical and geophysical consultants we provide the information needed
to design and construct all sorts of civil projects. In addition, we provide expertise to
assess and recommend treatments for slope stability issues, excavation concerns,
and practically any kind of problem that involves the behavior of soil, bedrock and
ground water as they relate to mans desire to reshape the earth and build upon it.
The aim of Baynunah Laboratories is to provide high quality, efficient, reliable and

EQUIPMENT & FACILITIES

Baynunah Laboratories has performed subsurface investigations
using boreholes drilled by using a wide variety of equipment, test pits,
test trenches, Cone Penetration Tests, and geophysical surveys. We have
an in-house soil testing laboratory where we perform common
engineering tests and other specialized tests.
Geotechnical investigation works are supported by a certified and
highly proficient materials laboratory located within the premises of the
Head Office. The laboratory is well equipped with facilities necessary
for conducting tests on a wide range of foundation materials, subgrade
soil and construction materials including soils, aggregates, cement, water
quality, bitumen and preparation of asphalt and cement concrete mix
designs for various classes of strength. The materials testing laboratory
is computerized, well-equipped with modern testing equipment and
qualified manpower.
Laboratory test results are issued in concise computer generated
formats and graphics with supplemental data acquisition reports
available upon request.
Geophysical surveys works are equip with SYSCAL Pro Resistivity
meters and its been used in this study. The system is designed for high
productivity resistivity and IP measurements. It features some high
output capabilities allowing to work in any field conditions for
groundwater exploration and for civil engineering or environment
applications. The output current can be automatically adjusted to
optimize the input voltage values and ensure the best measurement
quality. The system offers also the possibility to inject the current with a
voltage specified by the operator.
Marine application: a specific mode allows the system to be used for
continuous logging, especially dedicated to marine applications; in that
mode, a GPS can be directly connected to the unit by a serial link for a
continuous recording of the location of the 10 channels all along the
profile; a set of 10 resistivities is measured and stored approximately
every 2 seconds. In that case, specific cables are supplied to fit to that
environment. A specific remote PC software can be used for data storage
and for a graphical picturing in real time of the resistivity pseudosection.

Geotechnical Engineering:
To understand the ground you plan to build on, Baynunah Laboratories relies on
three investigative phases: drilling and sampling, laboratory testing, and
professional evaluation:
Drilling: Our fleet of drill rigs and trained crews are supervised by a drilling
operations manager to safely, effectively and productively conduct field tests
and retrieve soil and rock samples using auger, rotary wash and rock coring
techniques. We have sufficient drilling rigs available within few days upon
receiving of the Work Service Order and our capacity to work continuously will
be proven upon project awarding.
Geotechnical Laboratory: Developing a testing program that is projectspecific and following it with an accurate analysis of the results are two of the
most important tasks facing a geotechnical engineer. At Baynunah Laboratories,
laboratory testing is under the direct supervision of a professional engineer
trained and experienced in geotechnical laboratory methods and techniques. Our
professional standards help assure reliable and effective results.
Professional Evaluation: Baynunah Laboratories licensed engineers review all
field and laboratory data, and consider the planned facilitys loadings and
structural requirements. Also, we analyze soil, rock, geology and groundwater
conditions, including allowable loads, settlements, heave and other predicted
constraints. Specific recommendations, compatible with (and specific to) the
planned structure are then developed. Alternative shallow and deep foundations
may be offered, in conjunction with earthwork options to facilitate a comparison
of construction costs.

main purpose of this study was to detect and identify the underground subsurface
structures such as cavities and weak zones likely to be encountered in the study area
Methods of Survey: An electrical resistivity survey is based on the principle of
rock material acting as a resistor in a circuit. The basic idea behind the electrical
geophysical method is that different geologic materials have different electrical
properties. The layers in the subsurface can be identified on the basis of these
properties. An electrical current is induced into the ground. The ability of that
material to resist the current is measured. Because different materials exhibit
characteristic resistivity values, they can be distinguished by using this method.
Factors that affect the resistivity are degree of fluid saturation, porosity, pore-fluid
content, temperature, salinity, and thickness of clay or sand layers. Soils are more
conductive than rocks, and saturated clays are more conductive than dry sands.
Changes in pore water salinity also have great impact on ground conductivity.
Applications of the electrical resistivity method include locating aquifers, salt water
intrusions, and other ground water contamination problems. They can characterize
bedrock by locating weathered zones, fractures or voids attributed to solution
activity or determine depth to bedrock, and thickness of clay or sand layers

Baynunah Laboratories management confirms its commitment to good
professional practice and quality of its testing and calibration in servicing its clients.
Baynunah Laboratories is committed to meeting customer requirements and
enhancing customer satisfaction through continual improvement of its services and
the management system. It is also committed to continual improvement of the
effectiveness of this management system.
Baynunah Laboratories will provide adequate procedures to its employees that
satisfy standards acceptable to most industrial entities.
We will strive to improve the quality of our services at reduced cost and to
constantly satisfy the expectations of our customers and relevant agencies. We
are dedicated to servicing our customers, continuing management improvement
and delivering our services in a timely manner at competitive prices.
This policy will be evaluated at least once a year during the management review to
confirm that the suitability and effectiveness of this policy is being met. It is the
Quality Managers responsibility to ensure that all personnel concerned with testing
and calibration activities within the laboratory familiarize themselves with the
quality documentation and implement the policies and procedures in their work.
The Senior Management and Staff of Baynunah Laboratories also undertake to
ensure that all activities are conducted in strict accordance with company
documented procedures and comply with the requirements of th ISO/IEC 17025:
2005 and ISO 9001: 2008 Standard, and continually improve the effectiveness of
the management system.
