What is DemandHigh?
Demand High asks:
* Are our learners capable of more, much more?
* Have the tasks and techniques we use in class
become rituals and ends in themselves? In what ways
do you feel like this, if at all?
* How can we stop covering material and start
focusing on the potential for deep learning?
* What small tweaks and adjustments can we make to
shift the whole focus of our teaching towards getting

What is 'Demand High

Teaching'?

Tweaks
Deep learning
DEMAND HIGH TEACHING: demand that comes precisely at
the point where the learner is capable of taking the next
steps forward and helping the learner meet that demand,
rather than ignore it. This is a doable demand. (Scrivener &
Underhill, 2012)

Classroom dynamics

Student teacher switch to conduct feedback.

Playing devils advocate
Avoid saying yes, ok, good or great and just moving on.
Get students to ask follow-up questions based on answers
given to discussion questions/ exercises

What do you think the

people are talking
about?

Which words do you think you might hear?

Do you think any of the words youve mentioned
could fit in the dialogue? How?

Std A / Std B
What was said after the dialogue?

Ways of demanding high

I find English a bit confusing
*Who would say that?
*Why do you think the person said that?
*How would they say that?
*Could you make a sentence with a similar
meaning using different words?
*How can you change the sentence to make it
true for you?

I hate getting up early.

Its so tiring.

How did it work out...?

Your turn.

Some feedback...
