Reciprocating Compressors Monitoring Solution

2140 Data Collection

Building a reciprocating compressor database for route based analysis

Create a new database just as you

Would for standard route data collection

Once you have created a basic database

It will need to be modified by using the
Database Setup option

2140 Data Collection

Once you have created a basic database
It will need to be modified by using the
Database Setup option

It is a good idea to start with the Analysis Parameter

Set Information first. This is so that we will have the
Correct collection parameters created that can be assigned to
The data collection points

Double click on the AP Set Information

The AP sets that were automatically created when the database was
Built will show up.

Lets first look at the sleeve bearing set that was created

This set is an order based setup with an fmax of 20.5 orders

The spectral averaging mode defaults to Normal Mode.

This will need to be changed to Order Track so that all of the
Data will be phase related to the tach.
This change will need to be done to all AP sets that are
Assigned to the compressor

Now lets look at the default PeakVue set.
The first thing to notice is the Spectral Frequency Setup
The default set uses orders instead of Hz. This needs to be
Changed to Hz.

Next, change the Upper Freq to 500 (this is the Fmax)

For this set, this will be a 500 Hz High Pass Filter setting.
Rules of Peakvue, Fmax has to be equal to or less than the
High Pass Filter setting.

Change the number or Analysis Parameters to 2

Next, select the Signal Processing Parms tab
Pre-process Signal box should be checked

From the dropdown menu for Filter setting,

Select the 500Hz HP.

Follow the same procedures for the other

HP filter settings needed. There will need to be
A 1K, 5K, 10K and a 20K set created for valve
Monitoring.

When you click OK at the bottom right of the screen to advance, the trend parameters will be shown. If you followed all of the steps for the PeakVue AP setup,
There should only be 2 trends showing up. Make them as shown below.

To create the additional PeakVue sets, simply click on the set that was just modified, then select Add Set

Now simply change the description

Change the Filter setting to 1000Hz HP

Repeat this step for each

Filter setting required.

Now create an AP set for the pressure sensors (if pressure data is going to be acquired). Below is a good generic AP set that can be created

The AP sets should look something like this.

Select the Tree Structure Option

We can now modify the database to properly reflect the desired configuration

Here is an example of the what the database should look like. This is only a simple 1 intake and 1 exhaust valve. All of these PeakVue points would need to be
Duplicated for each valve. Once you have some baseline data, it may be possible to eliminate some of the PeakVue points.
Once you have a cylinder created, you can then copy and paste for each additional cylinder.

A piece of reflective tape must be placed on the flywheel, or the crankshaft that can be seen
by laser tach.(SpeedVue, 404b etc.). This tape should be placed so that the tach pulse is
Acquired when the #1 piston is at Top Dead Center (TDC)

A tach input is not required for 2140 data collection, but

It is highly recommended. This provides a constant phase
Reference for data collection throughout the compressor

A paint free place should be marked on the valve caps to
To ensure consistency in data collection.
Data points for valve data collection is better if
Taken directly on the valve cap
Note: A flat rare earth magnet provides
The best data collection.

This marked spot can also serve as a manual

Thermal temperature reading.
